I love how confident everyone is that they know everything when the facts are we, the general public, know basically nothing. Carry on, I'll just be over here with my popcorn.

Lots of irresponsibility on both sides to be fair.

All sides actually. Dem, Rep and media.

There are exactly two possible explanations for Comey sending out that letter when he did, in the manner that he did, and with the content that it had: partisanship or incompetence. If his goal was just to control the narrative or cover his own ass, he completely and utterly failed. It is totally fair to criticize him over this.

If clinton still wins...you think she will accept his resignation like all political appointees or let him stay until it is over?

It's longstanding policy for FBI not to comment on politically sensitive topics near an election, and comey not only broke this policy, it doesn't even seem like they have any information. Seems like huma was just emailing her husband, this shouldn't have been sent out as a letter to congress.

They also never really talk about an investigation like they did when he announced they weren't going to pursue charges. However they don't really have a history of needing to investigate someone running for president either.

^^ how does it seem like it was just her emailing her husband? Has that been said anywhere?

I don't think it's a conspiracy at all but I'm sure Comey was feeling the heat from congress (GOP specifically) and didn't think his letter would cause this. To be fair a lot of it was caused by Jason Chaffetz exaggerating and then the media once again buying it hook, line and sinker.

He released this headline only 11 days before the election. He said in the letter that he has no evidence. Investigations take time, and there is no fucking way that he is going to get anything before the election.

Obvious conspiracy is obvious. I am sure that he is getting paid.

If anyone takes the fall for this, it will probably be huma. Its a classic scheme for powerful individuals to have a "right hand man" who does their dirty work so they can maintain plausible deniability if they ever get caught.

Hey Earl why does the NYT have 5 stories above the fold about this story (that may or may not involve Clinton's emails) and only had one about Trump's tape?

It's almost like big stories on both sides are reported on.

because this is a story that will fire up the base even more by scaring them. They were starting to let their guard down with it looking like a landslide. I don't know any hillary supporter who heard about this new letter and decided not to vote for clinton anymore. Most of them already accept that she is corrupt and approve of her anyway.

Lol, the FBI doesn't even have a warrant yet to read the emails.

Why the ever living fuck would you send that notice to congress without the warrant in hand.

Is Comey an incompetent buffoon?

I thought they'd already seen the emails in relation to another case, but needed to get a warrant for the Clinton case in order for the evidence to be admissible in court.

Court? That's a huge leap from what Comey or any leaks have said...

Quote :
"When FBI Director James Comey wrote his bombshell letter to Congress on Friday about newly discovered emails that were potentially “pertinent” to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, agents had not been able to review any of the material, because the bureau had not yet gotten a search warrant to read them, three government officials who have been briefed on the probe told Yahoo News."

This email thing is seriously the dumbest political scandal ever that mattered so much to the public.

People seem mad that Huma didn't use a government email account to email her husband? The media reports "thousands" of emails "connected" with clintonemail as if this is unusual-- who hasn't sent thousands of emails from personal and work accounts? I have thousands of emails in each of these accounts, unread.

The original issue came up in connection with the bogus Benghazi investigations with the concern classified info could have been leaked. This has been proven false, but now the issue seems to just be political figures are suspect for using non government email in any context? People are almost hysterical about the whole thing, no one is sitting back to see the absurdity of this as an issue.

What's absurd is that with a little transparency this entire situation is avoided. She absolutely deserves blame for perpetuating this.

*** and I am pissed about that. It's too damn important to win this election when the danger is losing every part of the system (Senate, House and Executive) in a timeframe when SCOTUS will have major changes.

Harry Reid is such a fucking crybaby. It's ok to use his position of power and stand up on TV, radio, or wherever and spread bullshit claims about Romney's taxes, but when something happens to his own party that he doesn't like, he cries fowl. I wish he would just take his toys and go home.

He's trying to imply that Comey violated the hatch act.

I hardly ever talk about him, but there really isn't a person in politics I dislike more than that man. (Trump isn't in politics, yet).

^Bush's former ethic's lawyer,

Quote :
"Absent extraordinary circumstances justifying it, a public communication about a pending FBI investigation involving a candidate for public office that is made on the eve of an election or, as in this case, while voting is in progress, is very likely to be a violation of the Hatch Act. It is also a misuse of official position. The fact that politically motivated members of Congress want the communication to be made publicly only enhances the seriousness of the violation; it is not an excuse."

I'm also the only person on this form to have correctly called this email scandal from the jump: that it was a politically-motivated nothingburger.

You're right, I misread the statement from the lawyer. seems like what he saying is just the simple fact of sending out that letter in the negligent way he did was enough to show intent. I short-circuited again!

Pursuing hatch act violations against Comey would only thicken the conspiracy theories being floated from all corners of the right-wing (hint: everything except full release of the emails thickens the theories).

Good. I'm tired of the Democrats just laying back and playing prevent defense while relying on demographics and the electoral college to win Presidential elections. It's time they went on offense and started playing dirty too. How many Benghazi hearings have their been? We can have a few on Comey being an unethical asshole.

The "hatch act" whiners are so fucking ridiculous.

They ran a flawed candidate knowing the baggage was there. And pushed Trump because she'd lose to anyone else. It's pathetic. Democrats have themselves to blame, not Comey, not Stein, not Bernie.

And the whole "re-opening the case" phrase was brilliant. 100% misleading, but politically expedient.

But, it was no more misleading than Reid's lies about Romney's taxes.

Because calling a politician a liar is like calling the sky blue. They do it. A lot. All of them.

Some happen to lie at the opportune time, like Chaffetz. And Reid.

Look I feel like an outside observer here in all this. I dislike both candidates, so I'm just kinda watching from the sidelines, eating my popcorn, hoping that this election doesn't do my country in.

Or, alternatively, we can stop pretending that the other side are rational actors who plan on doing anything other than obstruct and mislead. Look, I'm not saying that the Dems should start perpetuating fake scandals left and right, but when confronted with a blatant act of partisan malfeasance, they should react in kind. Comey needs to be made an example of, if for no other reason than to prevent a future FBI director from committing a similar act.

Or, similarly, one could view it a different way.

If Comey had any kind of evidence that he thought was pertinent to the still-open investigation, witholding that evidence until after the election could be seen as favorable to Clinton, then the Republicans could cry fowl and say he violated the Hatch Act.

Either way, he doesn't win here.
