i'm not really surprised either, has Roy ever had a player go pro and not get drafted?

i decided to research this and actually he had mcadoo 2 yrs ago, then Tokoto went really late in 2nd round last year.

But still point stands, Roy always seems to convince his underclassmen to come back, whether it is good for them or not

1 - DSJr
2- Henderson/Mav
3 -Dorn/Kirk
4 - Abu?/Freeman?/Hicks
5 - Omer/Anya

Not a bad 9 deep roster for this coming season if Abu comes back and Freeman is healthy. Adding another piece like Gibson Johnson or Antwan Walker? I would assume Abu/Freeman questions might determine that. Sounds like the staff is in good shape for Johnson so guess we will see.

"Stay and win a national championship, you have a whole decade or more to make millions in the NBA" is probably a decently strong argument.

I thought he was potentially going to have another operation to that leg. Then actually rest it for a full year.

I mean that'd be best for us, he can do whatever he wants I guess.

We need Kirk to greatly improve over last season and hopefully be a consistent part of the rotation because if is not and Freeman is out, we are then down to a 7 man rotation. And of course if Omer has eligibility issues or Abu peaces out, then oh boy...

If everything goes fucking terribly then we will be in trouble. Got it.

[Edited on May 17, 2016 at 11:13 AM. Reason : Might as well mix in DSJ ripping his achilles tendon on a razor scooter while you're at it]

Nice try at being an asshole.

Everything I listed is plausible while DSJ getting hurt on a scooter is fucking stupid. Its completely possible that Kirk is still not ready, Freeman is limited, Amer gets fucked by the NCAA, and Abu goes pro. Abu is least likely of those, but if all 4 happen or even 2 or 3, then our depth is fucked.

I personally think Kirk improving significantly would be the least plausible. Hopefully my internet hatred will motivate him to make me drink my own tears.

Kirk did some traveling in high school which lead to him reclassifying and enrolling early so I'm not surprised he would need some time to develop. He, DSJ and Bam were on the same AAU team, so he's not a scrub but ACC is different than AAU. My guess is he never had any great coaching (including last season).

It's not like we actually saw enough of Kirk to see his potential. We saw just enough to see that he was raw and needed some more time in the system to gain some experience and confidence.

and barring any injuries, we won't be asking Kirk to play 15-20 mpg next year. so if he doesn't take a big step forward, i don't think it's gonna be a big deal. with Henderson, Mav, Dorn able to play the wing (depending on if we wanna go smaller or bigger), i don't think Kirk's gonna be forced into a big role next year. unless, of course he actually is ready for the role.

DSJ, Henderson, Mav, Dorn, Yurtseven, Anya, Abu, Hicks.....not even counting Kirk or Freeman and that's 8 guys, not 7. granted, i don't think Hicks is expected come in and be an immediate big impact player, but somebody will have to spell Abu at the 4 spot. i don't think Anya/Yurtseven will play much at the same time. so that leaves either Hicks or Freeman (whose status is unknown)

after his workout with the Celtics:
Quote :
"“It could go either way,” Abu said of his decision. “I feel I’m really close to my dream. Who’s to say I wouldn’t be able to do the same thing next year? But it’s a win-win for me; I can’t lose. I have a great situation going back to N.C. State. If I can chase my dream and play in the NBA, I wouldn’t have any complaints either.” "

^ I think he will be good to go pro after one more season but going now seems premature. His defense is poor and needs to add to his offense.

some dude on the PI board posted this info from the Richmond caravan event earlier tonight:
Quote :
"- expecting news on a possible new addition to the perimeter in the next week to 10 days
- Abu is thinking about things the right way. Gott talks to him every day or every other day. Will know more in 10 days
- He chuckled at BJ, but can't fault him or anyone looking
- Nard had a new rod placed in his leg today. May redshirt him depending on his progress post-surgery.
- Moxely flatlined for about 8 minutes, and had several strokes...needed to rest Mox
- Gott was asked about his defense. Gott suggested he likes to play fast, but hasn't had the players. Got laughs at, "Pivot. Pass. Tear ass. First to a hundred wins" comment.
- New coaches bring a new energy
- Mentioned he did not know about Lacy going pro until about 11pm on the last day to declare.
- Said both team and Henderson want to petition the NCAA for a 6th year
- No mention of getting our Yurt qualified or not, but talk was more of excitement (found out about it at a caravan event earlier in the week)."

So with all the Anya talk, I think i made a comment that he might just forget to take his name out, since he sseems a bit.......aloof sometimes.

Wonder if the press conference will include him, if not I'll start to get worried (mostly joking worried, but strange if Abu comes back first.

So, as a State fan always expecting the worst but hoping for the best, how concerning is it that Henderson isn't yet fully recovered from his injury? Wasn't he initially expected to miss like 4-8 weeks, and we are pushing 7 months?

what did gott say "he's close to 100%", or something along those lines? that gave me the impression that he was indeed getting much better...and will continue to improve. the injury was just way worse than they anticipated, i guess. maybe the biggest problem is that he's played only ~10 minutes of real, in game basketball in the last 2+ years. so surely he'll be rusty

I told you guys i hope you understood the impact 3+ lotto picks would have on expectations and adjust accordingly.

I know there will be some people ready to lifetime gottfried for taking a team like that to a 6th place acc finish and sweet 16 appearance.

^^i mean, nobody was questioning that if a team has 3 lotto picks and highly recruited players they will have lofty expectations.

who are our 3 lotto picks? surely Abu isn't a lotto guy next year, is he?

all that said, top 15 seems too high for us. but we'll see.

your exact words were "3+ lotto picks".

i assume you're being sarcastic and referring to a non-existent part of fan base that believes we have 3+ lottery picks on the team. the trouble is, nobody actually believes that we have 3+ lottery picks.

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic, I actually forgot that you guys don't recognize being a lotto pick as the general rule rule of thumb for leaving early. Really good underclassmen may or may not return but the guys "leaving early for sure" before the season even starts are almost always guys like marray, simmons, and ingram. Lotto picks.

but the point remains that we don't have 3+ lotto picks on the team. obviously DSJ and the Turk are mocked as lottery picks or close to it. Abu is not mocked as a lottery pick, even though he is probably not sticking around for his senior year.

i truly don't get what you're saying.
