I just watched Rooney split the CB's to pick the ball up, Jack standing between the two Iceland CB's like he's a fucking striker, and Kane having to drop to give Rooney a hold up option because there's literally no one in midfield. Carl face everywhere right now.

[Edited on June 27, 2016 at 4:28 PM. Reason : Wilshere refuses to actually participate in any build-up play. What's he doing out there again?]

Rooney in the Pirlo role has been a definitive bust. Perhaps finally he's droppable after this tourney.

They need somebody to pair with Dier in the midfield that actually possesses a workrate. These fuckes only hustle when they're in possession.

"What style of play are you referring to exactly?"

Aerial play. Attacking from the wings and depending on the cross rather than taking it to a team through the middle. Lack of movement in the attacking third and no attempt to lure the defense out of position. I mean, you can see that in this game. Maybe it's a lack of confidence in their technical on the ball ability, or the fact that they don't have much of a short passing game, culturally speaking. Maybe their own FA is getting in the way of player development. How many of their national team members play outside of the EPL?

^^^As they should. Although the commentators are supposed to be unbiased, McManaman (used to play for England) and Darke are both English so they are rightfully pissed. The papers are gonna have a field day with this one. Embarrassment to the entire country.

Sterling was awful the whole tournament. Only good thing he did was get a penalty in this game. Roy is a complete idiot for not starting Vardy and INSISTING that Rooney start. He's going to go down as one of the worst managers in English history.

Dier, Vardy, Rashford, Lallana and Walker and blow up the rest (Alli can stay but he was quite clearly needing a break after a long first top flight year). Only players worth a shit all tournament.

And actually, whoever tried to lump Wilshere in with Rooney and Kane is being dishonest given he played two halfa in three games. Jack is one of the very few technical and creative players (Lalanna as well). He just should have never been in the squad given his lack of match fitness/sharpness.

Nothing for Woy. He doesn't even deserve to resign. He should have been sacked before he had the chance. Aside from Vardy, Rashford, and Walker, the whole team was complete shit this whole tournament.

The moment woy said that shit it was a wrap.

It would have been nice to see them try a 4231 but that pretty much leaves Rooney out. If they play in that formation they're more direct with a front 4 and Walker/Rose provide the width, like how Spurs actually play.

Kane needs guys to play off of, and make runs beyond him to be effective. England wants him to play on an island with his back to goal.

Has this sport always been full of babies? Rolling around on the field after a loss, players and managers quitting immediately after losing, petulant fans resorting to violence on a regular basis... I can't imagine what the US would look like if we cared more about soccer.

Rarely does he make saves that he "shouldn't" by normal keeper standards because he's slow to see it coming. Then when he misses routine saves completely like Iceland it makes you wonder how he digressed this much...

Sub-par awareness and instincts have been killing him these past 2 years from when he was on top of his game.

This ref has been awfully card happy. Can't fault that call though, clear incidental handball. Commentators are right though, too many games before cards are cleared.

Two minor infractions and he misses the biggest game of his life.

Shame, too, he's been one of the best players in the tournament. If only he could play like this for club..

Yellow card accumulation should be removed from every tournament. Ruins the game for everyone, players, fans, and the tournament in general. Who cares if you get two yellow cards in like 5 games? It is so outdated with the way the game is officiated now.

If it were up to me, yellow card accumulation would reset after a game played without a yellow. As in, you get a yellow, and then the next game (while carrying a yellow) you go unpenalized, you back down to zero cards for the following game.

Ohhhh.... 1-1 Italy v Germany, now.

Man.....I think we've reached a point where PK takers have so thoroughly complicated the process, that they've made the job more difficult than it really needs to be.

Maybe instead of stuttering, galloping (whatever the fuck that was), or attempting the panenka, they should just hit the corner with pace and force the keeper to make a save rather than trying to jedi-mind-trick them.

Just got back from France. Absolutely amazing tournament atmosphere. The matches were brilliant (aside from the Croatia v Czech Republic when the Croatian ultras threw flares and started fighting. Was at the match).

England in typical England fashion were embarassing and the blame is on Roy Hodgson and his absolutely pathetic squad selection. Harry Kane was absolutely atrocious along with Sterling. No one bothered to show up for the Iceland match and that was Wazza's worst England performance. Woy's insistence on keeping the spurs players on the pitch was so stupid when Barkley and others could have been better options. Vardy should have started over Kane after the first match. Rashford was England's best player against Iceland and the kid came on in the 86th minute.

Welsh fans, Icelandic fans, Irish fans, and Swedish fans stood out as the best of the bunch and were always up for a laugh in the streets. The streets during the group stages were one big party and the fan zones were an amazing experience. Hats off to the French security and police, everything was always monitored and they let the fans have their fun as well. Always felt safe. Will post pictures later.
