With the Canadian dollar falling, isn't the floor (and the cap) dropping?

Picked up Teravainen and Bickell for some draft picks? Magic Francis at it again, collecting Finns like crazy

And the NHL approved Las Vegas for expansion. So shut up about the Canes moving there. And they aren't moving to the shitty Quebec market either.

Teravainen is a great acquisition. Not sure about Bickell or his $4 million salary.

I didn't say we were moving, being sold doesn't necessarily mean moved.

That cash infusion from vegas is huge maybe buys Karamanos some time?

That salary helps the Canes get to the cap floor and puts ward in the bottom 3rd of the league in goalie salary. Good move. FA goalie market is limited.

Karamanos probably guilted him since his contract basically bankrupted us and kept us out of the playoffs for a decade

It's a fair contract, all things considered. I heard that Staal put his house up on the market so I'm guessing he's not coming back.

the trust he borrowed from he was partially vested in, it's not like he was stealing from his children. if he needs to, he can easily find the capital to take care of shit.

Very strong draft from the Canes. First 3 picks were solid.

Canes made qualifying offers to 6 players:
Forwards Patrick Brown, Victor Rask, Brody Sutter and Brendan Woods and defensemen Keegan Lowe, Ryan Murphy and Dennis Robertson.

Forwards Zach Boychuk, Anthony Camara, Dane Fox, Carter Sandlak and Justin Shugg, defensemen Danny Biega, Michal Jordan and Rasmus Rissanen and goaltender Rasmus Tirronen were not tendered qualifying offers and will become unrestricted free agents on Friday, July 1. Rissanen signed a two-year contract with Jokerit of the KHL on May 2.

The following players are also unrestricted free agents: forwards Nathan Gerbe, T.J. Hensick, Brad Malone, Riley Nash and Chris Terry.

All would be good additions for the right price. Not many centers to choose from.

Haven't really followed hockey since I stopped playing pee wee. Can anyone give me a brief summary on why the Canes have been a disaster since the 2006 run and what the future holds for us? I went to a game last year and there were probably twice the Bruins fans there than Canes fans.

Bad contracts, underperforming veterans, lack of successful coaching, poor drafts (until Ron Francis took over).

The current roster is very exciting but young. The future is bright.

The Hurricanes claimed forward Martin Frk off waivers and signed free agent defenseman Jakub Nakladal.

https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/hurricanes-agree-to-terms-with-jakub-nakladal/c-282510916

Frk is a really nice grab and definitely could contribute sooner rather later. Nakladal is the Ryan Murphy replacement. I don't think Murphy is going to be on the roster at the end of the season.

Current roster is at 29. Trim to 23 by Tues.

I can't go that far. We haven't had 4 #1 overall picks (2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015) and done nothing with them. No one squanders talent like Edmonton.

Last night was tough to watch. They absolutely dominated for the majority of the game and then blew a 4-1 lead in the 3rd. Cam Ward has nothing left. He looked horrid last night and is the major reason we lost.

On a brighter note, offensively, the Canes looked great.

We just need goaltending to be above average. Too bad we're not getting that type of quality at the moment. Maybe we'll improve when we play some games in PNC.

Overdue Update

Roster changes:
- Terminated contract with Nakladal who had been terrible anyway.
- Bickell diagnosed with MS and probably won't play again this season or maybe ever.
- Martin Frk sent back to waivers and reclaimed by Red Wings.
- Matt Tennyson recalled and is probably going to stay on the active roster for a while if not indefinitely.
- Ryan Murphy up for trade (THANK GOD)

Stats
-Canes PP is 12th which is an AMAZING improvement from previous seasons. PK is even better, #2.
-25th in scoring (continues to be a problem)
-15th in GA
-Record - 5-6-4

Notes
-Cam Ward refuses to decide whether he is a good goalie or not but lately has been better than expected. Especially in the last 2 games.
-New players took a while to mesh together but are starting to form solid lines. TSA line especially looks to be working out now (Teravainen, Aho, Staal). Hopefully goal production will follow

At this point, I have no idea how this team will fair in a month or two but they are starting to play well. The season got off to a slow start (as usual) but with this many new players, I guess that is expected. I personally think you will see a big trade sooner rather than later. The Canes need point production immediately.
