Yeah it's just 5 of them. They take the best all-around 5 to try and go for the Team Gold medal. But certain ones are better at the beam or the vault or whatnot. That Biles girl or whatever is probably gonna get a bunch of Golds.

Yes, you can go as a specialist. That is specifically why Team USA's Madison Kocian made the team; she is insane on the bars. So far, she is delivering.

In 2012, McKayla Maroney went as a vault specialist and helped the team win gold. She did not compete in any other event. She likely would have won gold if she hadn't busted her ass.
