I don't see too many rares. I've seen a Snorlax (only one with a good CP), a Blastoise, Venusaur, and Tentacool (all CP<100) but outside of that it is Pidgeys, Rattatas, and the occasional Oddish every 5 seconds.

Almost a level 17. Got a 481 clefairy out of a 2k egg tonight. Drove around for about 45 min and picked up a couple new pokes. Have a 1100 vaporeon and a 1050 jolteon right now. Trying to get my level up so I can catch higher pokes. Most I catch right now are around 250-375 CP. I don't wanna waste candies because I know in a level or two those poke evolutions are gonna be obsolete

5 10k eggs hatched so far, only 1 new Pokemon. *sigh*

On the brightside the last 10k egg was a Dratini with 30 candy, so at least it adds to my candy for an eventual Dragonite.

At lunch today I walked right through several stops with active lures and nothing spawned. In fact nothing spawned the whole time I was walking around. Generally walking a few blocks I'll see like 10 pokemon

I'm the opposite, feel like lures are the best way I can find things unless it's a known "nest" of something valuable. Like if I need Psyduck, Slowpoke, or Magikarp I know a couple of spots to go, but if I want something somewhat rare(not the basic crap like Pidgey and Spearow), I have to find lures or just hope to get really lucky.

Oh I was saying today is an aberration. Every other time I get near a lure something spawns immediately and I'll keep getting stuff every 3-5 minutes. Not today for some reason

Yeah today alone I hit 3 lures and came away with some solid candy(not just the usual fodder). But I have seen some busts of lures that just bring an abundance of the boring stuff.

Just put up a lure outside a brewery, got exactly 3 pidgeys, 3 rattatas and 1 weedle.

I've made it to level 20, and shit like this, on top of the gps not working correctly when I go for runs, makes me want to stop playing.

^lol almost same exact thing happened to me yesterday. Was at a restaurant that was in range of a stop. Someone put a lure out and I had Pokemon Go open the whole time the lure was active. 2 Pidgeys, 2 Rattatas, a zubat, and a weedle. Such a let down.

I was about to use a lure but someone beat me to it today, so still have yet to use a lure. Overall it was pretty useless save for 1 Drowzee and 1 Abra.

I feel like this game has reached that separation point where the people who either cheat, play all day, or live downtown or near a great area have risen to the top. I have noticed gyms are filling up with 2k+ pokemon now making it nearly impossible to take down for normal players who aren't rolling around in groups or have a shit ton of time and potions. Just trying to catch them all now at this point I guess.

How much bigger of an advantage is being in a city vs not with this game? It seems to me it's probably pretty massive. At work I can go walk around outside and just absolutely rack up points, whereas in my neighborhood in Brooklyn it's hardly even worth my time to open up unless I just want some mileage.

Anyways, I've been playing since 7/11 and I'm level 21 (total XP 281,731)

I play pretty passively, basically I just open it up when I'm walking around and hit what I hit, I never go out looking for pokemon or anything like that. When I'm at an airport or something with nothing better to do I'll battle. I've used one lucky egg so far.

What level is everyone else and how long did it take you to get there?

Yeah. I've noticed that too. Those just starting now are going to have a hard time keeping up with those that have been playing since day 1 and still going "hard" at it.

Though, it does help having types that are strong against those in gyms. Attackers have the advantage in any gym battle. (ability to dodge, choose a pokemon type that is strong against defending gym member... etc). You don't have to brute force (stronger CP pokemon) to win over a gym, but it helps. But I agree that location and sinking hours into this weekly are the biggest factors to "success" in this game.

Looks like the update rolling out this week will include the ability to see IVs for Pokemon per Niantic's facebook post.

Well that will save me a lot of time at least looking that crap up and having to rename my pokemon with the info so I have record haha

Although my guess is I will still have to look up the percentage just I will have all the stats and get the exact number on the first lookup.

I'm level 23, been playing since about two weeks after it came out. My old phone couldn't handle the app hence starting late. Lucky for me I pass by 9 stops going to/from work so I usually am pretty good on items. If it's late on a weekend and I'm not tired I'll go out with my wife and we'll capture some gyms since that's the only real time you can get a lot of coins at once. Normally if I capture a gym in the middle of the day, it will be captured by a different team within an hour.

I started a couple days before the official release, I average about 2 hours of game play a day. At level 24. The Slowbros and Golducks are all wild captures with high CP's that I evolved strictly to dump in gyms (I shoot for 3-5 gyms a couple times during the weekdays at night when player traffic is low). My main army I use to take out gym are my 2 Vaporeons, Gyarados, Flareon, and Exeggutor. Gyarados has dragon type attacks, so he's useful against Dragonites and other water types. Flareon is to counter the grass types that are effective against my Vaporeons, though I still use Vaporeons for my primary attackers. They are pretty good at dishing out 2x/3x hits before I swipe to dodge the incoming attack and their tanky HP means they're forgiving if I fail to dodge an attack.

Update is up. After testing several of my calculated IV against the chart it does seem to be working within those ranges. It still doesnt tell you exactly what IV it is but I guess it can help narrow it down some. Also it comments on the size of your pokemon not sure what that has to do with anything.

I'm level 24 and started the week after it was released. I downloaded it, didn't see anything, checked it a couple of days later at a restaurant on a whim and caught 2-3 Pokemon and started actively playing. Mainly play on my lunch break. (North Hills, LaFayette Village, etc)

Feel like the game does just enough to keep me interested, basically always putting me within a couple of several evolutions. Eggs on the other hand have gotten progressively depressing, as my 5k eggs all seem to be awful.

I am lvl 22 and have been playing since a few days after launch. I have gone out a few times looking for pokemon but usually its just what I find day to day. There is only one spawn point at my work that pops up every so often and zero anywhere near my house so catching them on the regular hasn't worked out. There are a few stops I pass on my way to and from work that I can hit but thats about it. Basically if I want to catch a bunch or stock up I have to go somewhere else to do it. Once the weather cools down some I will be more likely to head some place after work or on the weekends.

I guess after messing around this will help save a fair amount of time by quickly knowing on the common ones if they are even worth looking up their actual IV versus instantly transferring and on the less common ones not having to power them up a few times to narrow the spread on if they are worth keeping.

^^ Pyro it For what it's worth, Jolteon is almost obsolete. You're better off using a grass type Pokemon like Exeggutor to take out other water Pokemon. Electric Pokemon are still a bit weak in comparison IMO.

^Yeah but they have the advantage of only having one elemental weakness, Ground. And I hardly ever see any ground anywhere more than like 200cp.

I am predicting Electric will likely get a boost in the near future. Their weakness is rooted in Niantic's calculation for how speed from the original games translates to power in Pokemon Go. This is the same reason that other Pokemon like Alakazam and Gengar are garbage in the game currently. To have so many top tier fighters from the original game poorly represented in 'Go' needs remedied.

Yeah. I imagine Electric will get a boost in the future. Right now, this game really favors the attacker, but I don't have the slightest idea on how to make this balanced.

^Yep. Now if your pokemon is kicked out of a gym it needs to be revived instead of going to 1hp. Also, if you are training your own team's gym it needs to be revived once it loses (which doesn't make much sense in my opinion but whatever).

They are likely trying to mitigate the diglett/bubble gym trick which lets you solo level a gym to level 10 in less than 10 minutes. Granted if you do that perfect, you do not need the revive, but that at least adds a little more risk.

Things like that that ruin a game quickly. Also based on the number of dragonites and their CP I have seen lately I have to assume there is some sort of hack going on with those as well so this game is pretty much done unless they start throwing around the ban hammer.

I'm actually not far from a Dragonite, there are some Dratini nests around, just have to be willing to pursue them.

I saw a Kangaskan in a gym the other day...that one was an eye-opener. Either that person flew to Australia, hatched a really rare egg, or GPS spoofed.

Never understood the fun in just blatantly cheating like that and game companies should know that if you aren't actively working against cheating from day one your games and company will quickly be written off. Just eliminating or temporarily throwing off things like bots isnt good enough. You have to find a way to ban accounts as well otherwise there is no real deterent. Supposedly they changed the code so a lot of the bots stopped working. at least for now. However, if they dont go back and ban all these accounts it doesn't stop the fact that these people have several OP dragonites and such to just roll gyms constantly.

Meh, I took out a CP3200 Dragonite this morning, it's not that big of a deal with how poorly gyms are structured for the defenders.

At level 25, but the grinding is begin to drag a bit as the number of rare Pokemon I'm seeing is really dropping. Even eggs are starting to feed just the same old stuff.

yeah. my ~2000cp gyarados with dragon attacks can take out a CP2500 Dragonite by itself/heads up and lived to tell about it. I could stretch out to probably a CP2700+ dragonite if I am careful and dodged a bit more, any higher and it'll take the gyarados to weaken it and a second pokemon to finish it off.

Pretty sure this game wants me to throw my phone and break it.

Had 4 gyms, placed into a 5th, go to collect...well that's weird, shop page won't load...let me restart the app. Ok the app restarts, but shop page still won't load...well let me try this again. Ok here we go, great, the shop page loads....down to 3 gyms. Then about 5 minutes later my 5k egg is a Paras.

I'm surprised I still have a working phone.

Not sure if this is related, but gym attacks seem to have gone way down after the update requiring revives for gym attacks and gym strengthening. I've held the same 4 gyms for 3 straight days now, which has never happened. Usually I get knocked out the same day.

Or maybe no one is playing anymore

Probably a little of both. I think with there not being much incentive to actually do gym battles people are mostly just trying to catch them all rather than bother so much with gym battles.

Yeah I grab them when they only have one or two in them and I have time, but it just doesn't seem worth it to bother on any with like 3 or more especially higher levels. If I was rolling around with a team like a lot of people seem to do it might be more fun. Since I mostly pay attention to ones near where I work usually when its one color its the same names each time so clearly they either work close or are driving around this area taking it as teams.
