There's been talk of relocating the motor to the mid/rear of the car since the mid 60's. If it happens, the car needs a new name and be classed higher than the Corvette, IMO.

I honestly don't have a problem with the C8 going MR, however I'm sure Chevrolet would sell even more units if there were a FM C8 and a separate model that was MR.

If a mid engine Corvette is developed and sold, it will be alongside a more conventional Corvette. It will have a different name; leading rumor is something like Corvette Zora, or just Zora. Chevrolet isn't gonna just out of the blue discontinue a $55k sports car and introduce one that's $100k+.

They'll just have the Camaro replace the corvette's price point.

And yes that picture was just a test mule. But it looks better than that Lamborghini knock off spy photo

Quit trolling. They won't discontinue the Corvette Brand. It's their flagship. The Camaro, on the other hand, was discontinued for about 5 years at one point. Point being, the Camaro is not going to step up into Corvette-land and Chevy isn't going to get rid of Corvette heritage. The Corvette is a FMR setup as it is now. Maybe Chevy wants a super car to compete with the new Ford GT and are looking to expand their current portfolio. Adding a new lineup is expensive. Does Chevy have that much room to accommodate? I think making the next gen Corvette a dedicated MR will take some getting used to by the community. Traditionalists will despise it. But I like variety...

Why in the hell are MR cars almost always really expensive, anyway?

cts-v, camaro, and several trucks share a lot of the motor
cts-v and camaro share brakes, magnetic ride suspension, transmission, diff, wheels, and probably some other stuff

http://gearheads.org/7-mid-engine-corvette-prototypes-that-never-made-it-to-production/

there's been quite a few prototypes, as I stated, if it is done it will rebranded as Stingray i HOPE. To keep that series alive.

I love the corvette brand, I don't think they would have a car above it but at this point, why not go MR for a bit. Shaking it up is good for the Car's history.

Only if they can offer it at 60-100k. A 150k Corvette will kill the brand

They also had plenty of entry level $50k corvettes and enthusiast $70k corvettes.

Are they going to be able to offer a $50k corvette that's MR that meets or exceeds a C6/C7 capabilities that is comparably priced (when new)?

I drove a C7 Stingray 3LT Z51. I like that the cockpit is driver focused, though it is a bit more cramped. The color HUD is very nice. I don't really pay much notice to the HUD in my C6, but the C7 was definitely nicer. I don't know why this is... I don't know what it is about the C7 that didn't excite me like the C6 did when I first drove it. I thought my drive by wire throttle response was "laggy", the C7 I drove in sport mode was worse at times. The C7 seats are much more supportive for a track day, but I'd rather have my C6 seats for longer trips... I may have set the bar too high on the C7 since I drive a modified C6. Outside of all the new shiney technology, it just didn't really wow me. I'd like to see what the C8 brings to the table.

Oh and I didn't care for the 7 spd transmission. The gate change feel from 4 to 5 is really 4 to 7, so it's like they crammed gates 5 and 6 in the middle between absolute neutral and the right most dogleg 7th gear. No lockout, just straight from 4 to 7, and a very small mechanical resistance when you slide the shifter over as you try to find/select either 5 or 6. No 1 to 4 skipshift, which is nice... Electronic ebrake (not a fan). cool car. Just not for me. Lets see if theres more of that when the c8 comes out.

Electronic E brakes are fucking bullshit. Sadly, I think manual E brakes these days are more rare than naturally aspirated engines
