i dont know, i'm personally mad that it doesn't fit the narrative i started over a year ago that we would be screwed when brisset was gone. i built up the expectation that this season would be miserable because we had no qb and that if we somehow did have a qb, it would have to be mcclendon. we were all wrong about the qb situation and i don't want to dismiss old narratives.

he does have the look of a guy that crumbles if he has to start making tight throws with guys in his face but so far he's been much better than we couldve expected this year

Yeah he has done exactly what's been asked of him. We will see how he holds up against better Ds, but so far I'm impressed.

I was a little skeptical of his arm strength after the first couple of games but he made several nice longer passes yesterday. Pleasantly surprised so far

lost in it all is two superb throws that went for an INT (dayes drop) and nothing (harmon penalty)

Nope.

His limitations have been exposed and are part of the reason BC beat us yesterday.

He's like third string WR at best

This so much. Finley has 0 upside. BC stacked the line, took Dayes out, and dared Finley to beat them.

Newsflash: he did not. McClendon could be good. Finley will never be any more than tall Daniel Evans.

Daniel Evans threw a mean fade.

It was like the only thing he could do, though.

Let's leave Finley out of this. This is on DD & the game plan. Too conservative. Scared

He kinda did though. He has 2 perfect home runs ruined by other players' mistakes.

y'all are misremembering Daniel Evans if you think Finley is on that level. he's no NFL QB and he's not a great college QB...but he's ok. he has limitations and most of us would agree that McLendon has more upside. but this ain't on Finley.

Who agrees that McClendon has more upside? Certainly not the coachs, who started Poop Finley over him even though Poop showed up on campus like 2 months ago.

McClendon doesn't fit this system very well. He's big, inaccurate, and not exactly fleet of foot. He's basically Logan Thomas 2.0.

Jaoby Meyers on the otherhand, is more in the Michael Vick mold. Fleet of foot, good arm, can make a pretty decent shit pie out of the NC State shit that hits the fan from time to time. I think DD made a mistake not giving him a shot out there this year.

4 out of 5 passes Finley didn't survey the field during pass plays AT ALL.

He hiked the ball, looked to his number 1 option for that play (mostly to the left), and then threw at him regardless of his openness, coverage, or alternative options.

He is not the Finley that started the season

The Finley that started the season was playing against shitastic defenses. It's easy to look competent when you're playing William and Mary and the worst ECU team in a long time.

I said earlier that if Finley was still starting at the halfway of the season, we would be in trouble. Well, we're in trouble.

Put it this way: McLendon has the "tools" to be a pro QB. Finley does not. Now, I'm not saying McLendon is better right now than Finley. But in terms of potential and upside, yeah...I think he has more of it than Finley. Finley has experience and probably better decision making, knowledge of the playbook, etc. Obviously there's a reason the coaches went with him. I'm not saying the coaches are wrong. But I don't think it's unreasonable to say that McLendon's upside and potential are greater than Finley. Finley described himself as a "Game Manager"

And as for Finley's recent play...I would imagine playing Clemson and UL back to back can really shake somebody's confidence.

The season is over play for the future. Play the guy who could become great not a game manager. Plus I really don't want him to leave. Not really sure how good Dylan Parham is supposed to be.

Arm strength coaches look for isn't just about how far you can throw the ball. It's about how quickly you can get it to receivers as well. Finley has some of the slowest passes and several times it's cost us big because he can't zip it there.

This year should be interesting at the QB position. RF came in last year and did a damn fine job with 15 minutes of preseason practice. Now he's had a full year in the program.

I hear some good stuff on McKay too & then there's always McClendon. Throw in Myers at WR who is dynamic with the ball but can toss the rock too.

So far so good.

This week is going to be a really, really tough game for Finley. No doubt they'll take away the run and force him to beat their secondary.

^This will be a bit of a unique situation. They've had 3 weeks to prepare for him. It's almost like a bowl game with how much time that defense has had to prep.

How much of that time did they know the next game would be canceled? I can imagine they had time to practice for Miami in the days following the Alabama game?

his worst games all came against S&P+ top 21 defenses (Clemson #6, Miami #13, UL #19, BC #21). he also had a good game vs top 25 D Wake and he did fine vs FSU's #10 defense.

so i mean...he struggled vs very good defenses. that shouldn't be particularly surprising.

^ meh, I don't think half the quarterbacks in the ACC are better, or even half the power 5 QBs.

He's not jersey-honoring good, but he's on the same echelon as, say, Jamie Barnette.
