Trailer seemed to simultaneously spoil a lot of moments, and tell us absolutely nothing about the actual plot of the movie

I don't know, I didn't seen Franco or Rapace in any of those scenes. That said, I really think this is going to be another case of trailer > actual movie. It's exciting enough to make me want to see the movie but the movie is going to lame.

I wouldn't be surprised if the trailer is Xeno heavy due to the reaction from having no Xenos in Prometheus. That being said, it looks more like a fan service remake of Alien.

So what's the deal with the xenomorph coming out of the guy's back instead of his chest? I guess is it some kind of new variation of xenomorph or something? The facehugger looked the same.

the plot synopsis was already leaked and apparently confirmed by Fassbender. This crew arrives long after the events of Prometheus to a time where the dark goo has already transformed the planet that they crashed landed on at the end of the first prequel. Thus, it has transformed some of the vegetation in the jungle such that it emits spores that enter the body through the respiratory system and give rise to Neomorphs that erupt out of the back and/or throat of the victim (depending on how it entered the body). The leak was that the movie will contain two of the Neos and one of the traditiona Xenos.

Don't consider that a spoiler since it was basically what the entire trailer was about. I would expect a lot more fan service out of these trailers do to some of the backlash and outcry from Prometheus.

C-section Xenomorphs have much more symetrical heads than natural gut bursting Xeno babies.

So I'm to assume that David leaves some black goo on the planet of the "creators".

And Covenant is people coming to colonize that same planet and finding out that Aliens completely fucked shit up. Right?

But Fassbender also looks like he's on this most recent plane. Did he fly back to earth and join up with this crew? Or did they make another synthetic and he's just the go-by?

I think there are a lot of Davids.

I also think that the alien form we see will vary. The goo doesn't produce the same zenomorphs we are used to predictably. Natural variations.

I wonder if what we are seeing is the start of their creation. Or if all these movies are separate isolated events.

I could care less about this movie and franchise at this stage. The last movie was terrible. In fact, everything since Aliens has been terrible. Until they make another movie based on the Colonial Marines, I just don't care.

The thing with Prometheus was that it had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. It wasn't that it was just a bad movie full of inconsistencies. It was supposed to be the rebirth of the Alien franchise and it fell flat on it's face harder than Charlize Theron being crushed by a falling tower when she could have just sidestepped three feet to the right.

This. I was so stoked for Prom, only to be let down by how shitty it was, but at the same time how good it potentially could have been. That being said, Im keeping expectations for Covenant very very very low. Like AvP low.

I read an early review that said it's scary and really gorey but otherwise isn't very good and not much happens for a huge chunk of the movie. I'll probably still go see it against my better judgment

Ozymandias

Quote :
"I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”"

I thought it was a decent action-sci-fi movie.

spoliers
I wish they would have carried on the more scifi theme of Prometheus and delved into the Creators more, instead of just the creature killing everything in site. Almost seemed like they were pulled between the 2 themes: make a good action movie or make a good scifi movie.

^ I think what is really pulling them here is the studio wanting to get more money out of us. In all honesty, they could have summed up everything perfectly in Prometheus, but obviously they were pulled into a different direction during shooting, or probably even post shooting.

How is it that David is the creator of the xenomorphs when there is a huge mural of one found in that Tomb in Prometheus?

^Exactly, timeline doesn't make sense at all. David created facehuggers/xenomorphs, but when they encounter the fossilized space jockey in the OG Alien, it had been dead for thousands of years with a chestburster hole in it.

Also, in Alien vs. Predator which was set in our time, they showed that flashback of early humans worshipping Predators and sacrificing themselves in those temples for the facehuggers to grab them.

The only way this can make sense is if David somehow travels through time which would really cheapen things.

I mean...it was better than Prometheus, but that was a low bar.

The action/suspense was solid, but definitely not on Alien/Aliens level.

**Spoiler**

I actually liked the storyline of David basically becoming a God/creator. There were obviously still some holes, but it was interesting.

Things that were horrible:

- Way too many (and severe) "C'mon man!" moments. I get that they're necessary in horror/sci-fi movies, but they really pushed it. Crudup getting that close to the egg after all the shit he had already seen. The first chick walking a mile away to "wash-up". Countless characters going off alone. I get that it's necessary, but that was ridiculous. Probably the worst...was Daniels getting in the pod and asking Walter/David those questions when she knew well beforehand that it was David. Why would you do that right before you go into cryo? She had done so well as a character before that. Just disappointing.

- The stand-up aliens. Just didn't like them. From the color, to the standing up, to the "hidden mouth/whatever" that they had. Just didn't sit right.

Honestly that's it. I still enjoyed the movie and it wasn't as disappointing as Prometheus...but definitely left a lot to be desired. I'll still watch the next ones.

^^Those ones that were standing up were Neomorphs, I think they just included them to have a closer connection to Prometheus since they showed up there. Agreed, they are stupid and people just want Xenomorphs. The little neomorph that was just born was meh. When it jumped on that girl in the med lab it barely even hurt her lol.

Btw, how did David get a facehugger onto acid face's face without anyone seeing? And take out Walter/change his clothes/remove his hand/etc and still get out in time? Shouldn't he have had a hole in his chin from when the 12 yr old boy stabbed him?

Pretty sure acid face had a face hugger on him when they were in David's "office". He got the acid on him when his friend cut it off. I was thinking at the time that the face hugger had enough time to knock him up.

^^^ he not only cut off his arm, changed closes, but somehow fixed his voice modulator that Walter damaged. It also apparently only takes 5 seconds for a facehugger to implant an egg in you and under 10 minutes for that egg to hatch and fully mature

No way that facehugger was on him long enough. It was like 5 seconds. Why would all other facehuggers stay on for a few hours before falling off? And he stayed conscious the whole time so he would have felt it shoot something down his throat and prob would have mentioned something.

Oh no, people arguing about how fictional beings should behave.

By the way Giger totally stole the alien design from Eraserhead.

I just couldn't get over how unprofessional and idiotic the characters were. I would assume any people selected for space travel would have had some training and had protocols to follow. This movie is full of emotional, overacting spontaneous people constantly making dumb or illogical decisions. It just felt like cheap writing. The crew was easy fodder for the aliens and had no chance against David.

^I would say the face hugger, after shooting its load down a hosts' throat in 5 seconds, has already completed its primary objective. But it stays latched on to protect its spawn for as long as possible, then it eventually dies anyway. Since its not an organism that can go on with its life after it lays its eggs, it might as well just stay latched on and be a deterrent to protect its deposit. This would explain why we see it stay latched on a long time in other movies.

But this movie did suck. It was basically Prometheus again (I liked Prometheus), but with less compelling characters. The story didn't advance. I would have loved to have seen a movie where David and Elizabeth get to the "Creators" planet, and learn something more about them, their motives and stuff. Instead it was kind of the same movie over again.

I usually dont care about stuff like this but even I had to laugh: Who gets down on their hands and knees and presses on a fungii's spore sack like that? I wouldn't even do that shit on Earf. Then he like inhaled deeply, haha Gross man.
