Hire Kevin Keatts
Wait! Before you leave, just let me plead my case first.

Our beloved Wolffack will no doubt screw up the upcoming coaching search, but maybe they will accidentally get it right this time and hire UNC-W phenom Kevin Keatts.

Keatts is one of the hottest names in coaching right now, leading the 'Hawks to a retina melting 19-2 record so far this season. The guy is young. The guy is 44. The guy is handsome. All of these things are what make him a great recruiter and an excellent husband.

Then you have the coaching side of the equation- and obviously he has already solved for X (&0's) with his near mint condition record on the season.

All and all, this man is a great coach, a great man, and a great Carolinian. He's our man.

Quote :
"Keatts began his coaching career as an assistant at Southwestern Michigan College for the 1996-97 season.[2] He then went to Hargrave Military Academy as an assistant coach for two seasons before being promoted to head coach in 1999. In 2001, Keatts moved to Marshall as an assistant coach to Greg White. He returned to Hargrave in 2003 and served as the head coach until 2011. During his ten years (over two stints) as the head coach at Hargrave, Keatts had a record of 262–17, and won two national championships.[1]

In 2011 he earned a degree from Marshall.[2] Keatts then joined the staff of Rick Pitino at Louisville and was a part of the Cardinals 2013 NCAA Division I national championship team.

On March 27, 2014 he was named the head coach of UNC Wilmington, succeeding Buzz Peterson. In Keatts' first season at the helm he was named CAA Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Seahawks to their first conference championship in nine (9) years, and first winning season in seven (7) years.

In his second year, Keatts repeated his rookie-year double, once again winning the CAA regular-season championship and Conference Coach of the Year. In winning the 2016 conference coach of the year, he became the first coach in CAA history to ever win the award in consecutive years."

sounds like a solid pick to me

I don't think this is fair to Dave Doeren. At least wait until he's on the hot seat.

I'd say Keatts is one that we'd 100% interview and pursue, but I imagine he's going to have plenty of offers.

For all those on the Archie bandwagon, go ahead and abandon ship. Multiple reports that he has 0 interest in NC State and doesn't really feel any ties to the school and only came here because of his brother. So I don't think we're going to persuade him to come here just because he played here.

That being said, Yow isn't make a move barring us losing out. We just beat Duke which cancels out the UNC loss, so Gott has a little more breathing room if he can manage to pull a few more upsets.

I haven't heard any of this but I assumed it would not happen with Yow. After she retires.....

As for this thread, his team is currently 143rd in defensive efficiency, so is he really an upgrade?

That's garbage, there are multiple rumors going around that Archie is obsessed with getting the State job. It has been his dream since he was a little boy. The only reason his brother took the State gig was because Archie convinced him.

^ It's true. I remember he did an interview with Sports by Brooks back in the day where he said he saw Corch in his unitard, and immediately knew that he had to play for that program. His first act as the new NC state coach would be to bring back the unitard.

I count 7 of his guys are transfers/juco/prep school guys. With some young guys mixed in, so I'd guess he recruited most of them

It's mostly his recruits yes. He brought in some nice talent.

I went to a few games the last two years (not this year) they play extremely uptempo. Energy levels are impressive. Lots of instant transition 3s. Lots of ball pressure on defense. He's extremely engaged and passionate on the sideline. Demands absolute focus, energy, and attention to detail.

It's a great brand of basketball and I'd be shocked if he's not in a major conference within the next 2 years.

I had a buddy who was on the team the last two years and he had nothing but good things to say about him
