Very vaguely remember HW's inauguration.

But I'm going with the Berlin Wall. That time it came down.

The first one I can think of would be OJ's trial and him being found not guilty. I remember watching the TV and seeing a black lady almost collapse because she was so happy.

edit: after reading through, I also remember the OK City bombing...I didn't realize that was around the same time. I guess '95 was the year I actually paid attention to news, that would put me at around the age of 8, in the third grade, so seems about right.

^Yeah, my 10th grade English teacher told us that the year before we had him he was walking down the hallway to the teachers lounge and heard a big cheer the day a verdict in the OJ case was expected to come. He said based on who was cheering he knew what the verdict was without even seeing the news.

Celebrating the Simpson verdict is probably the most fun I ever had in school.

Wow I was gonna say Panama war and Berlin Wall too. How old are ya downtown raleighbrown?

I was all geared up for world war 3 type adventure and then it only took us like a few hours to disable their communication system.

As a 7 year old it made us seem invincible kinda like when Pacman ate vitamins on my atari.

I also remember seeing news stories about the US military doing air strikes on Libya. That would have been the next one I remember after the Challenger explosion.

I remember the Sandinistas or some group in Central America taking power cutting into programming one day I wasn't at school.

I have no memory of the Berlin Wall which surprises me. (Born October '82)

Does anyone remember the Soviet coup that resulted in Gorbachev's downfall? It happened on Christmas day but I've never talked to anyone that says anything about this as it was going on. This at the time would've been the biggest shift in the world order Post-World War II.

People saying O.J. verdict makes me feel old. We watched the verdict in middle school.

I barely remember anything of hurricane hugo, but I remember sitting in the basement and wondering why and pretty much anything until I was around 6 or 7

My dad was really interested in the Gulf War, so I remember some stuff I think

The OJ Simpson trial stands out the most for me because my little brother was running around saying "OJ jinjin" and I earnestly asked my parents if OJ was in anyway related to Bart Simpson (btwI was way too old to be asking that) and I remember watching him drive away from the cops and wondering why he was going so slow if he was trying to get away from them.

^^^ See my post on the previous page for a list of all major events I remember from the 80's (including Gorbachev coming to power), plus a link to Wikipedia listing major events of the 80's. USSR was dissolved in 1991 so I have not mentioned it, but yes, I do remember it.

Also, we lived about 30 miles away from Three Mile Island when it melted down, but I wasn't even 1 year old at the time. No side effects that I'm aware of, unless you consider having an abnormally large penis a side effect.

On to sports. I just read today marks 27 years since Douglas upset Tyson in Tokyo. Back then I wasn't into watching sports all of the time, but I do remember my dad telling me the next morning that Tyson got beat. My dad doesn't like watching combat sports, but even he paid attention to that news story. Mike Tyson was one of those people that even non-sports fans new about and paid attention to any news involving him.

And after a little research the next major sporting events I remember are the Giants beating the 49er's in the 1991 NFC Championship Game, the Bulls first NBA threepeat, and Duke beating Kentucky in the 1992 NCAA Elite 8.
