Hypocritical, yes. But immunity doesn't always mean a crime was committed despite what some people on TWW has said in the past.

"Witness immunity from prosecution occurs when a prosecutor grants immunity to a witness in exchange for testimony or production of other evidence. It is immunity because the prosecutor essentially agrees never to prosecute the crime that the witness might have committed in exchange for said evidence."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immunity_from_prosecution_(international_law)

Quote :
"Immunity from prosecution is a doctrine of international law that allows an accused to avoid prosecution for criminal offences. Immunities are of two types. The first is functional immunity, or immunity ratione materiae. This is an immunity granted to people who perform certain functions of state. The second is personal immunity, or immunity ratione personae. This is an immunity granted to certain officials because of the office they hold, rather than in relation to the act they have committed."

you don't have to be guilty to want immunity, that is reasonable, it's basically the "Don't Talk to the Police" defense

The White House goal of all of this is obviously to muddy waters and get people talking about it and not the Russia investigation but... the story about Susan Rice this morning? I'm confused so the obfuscating will probably work.

Even is she did request unmasking isn't the ultimate decision one that can only me made by the respective agency (CIA, FBI or NSA) officials. And it's been proven and even bragged about that Kushner actively sought to undermine the sitting president with the UN resolution, no? Wouldn't this be a REASON to unmask if it did happen?

"The United Arab Emirates arranged a secret meeting in January between Blackwater founder Erik Prince and a Russian close to President Vladimir Putin as part of an apparent effort to establish a back-channel line of communication between Moscow and President-elect Donald Trump, according to U.S., European and Arab officials.

The meeting took place around Jan. 11 — nine days before Trump’s inauguration — in the Seychelles islands in the Indian Ocean, officials said. Though the full agenda remains unclear, the UAE agreed to broker the meeting in part to explore whether Russia could be persuaded to curtail its relationship with Iran, including in Syria, a Trump administration objective that would be likely to require major concessions to Moscow on U.S. sanctions.

Though Prince had no formal role with the Trump campaign or transition team, he presented himself as an unofficial envoy for Trump to high-ranking Emiratis involved in setting up his meeting with the Putin confidant, according to the officials, who did not identify the Russian."

I'm only linking Buzzfeed because they were correct and accurate when they posted the dossier and articles associated with that so there is SOME credibility there. Trying to find other sources on this one now.

Quote :
"NEW YORK — A former campaign adviser for Donald Trump met with and passed documents to a Russian intelligence operative in New York City in 2013.

The adviser, Carter Page, met with a Russian intelligence operative named Victor Podobnyy, who was later charged by the US government alongside two others for acting as unregistered agents of a foreign government. The charges, filed in January 2015, came after federal investigators busted a Russian spy ring that was seeking information on US sanctions as well as efforts to develop alternative energy. Page is an energy consultant."

But I'm skeptical that Page had any real connection to Trump aside from being a name on a piece of paper he read off.

I suppose it's entirely possible he simply never really worked with Trump all that closely. Still have to wonder how yet another Russian-connected dude ended up in a foreign policy advisory position.

I'm sure the Greenwald gang on here will rush in to say this guy is nonsense but this is about as good a rundown of the Rice story as I've seen and does give some reason to look at her actions while not missing the greater point.

That's a good read. If she broke the law I would hope they'd investigate that as well. It sounds like another shitty person in charge of an agency they never should have been in charge of. I can't imagine how utterly infuriating and frustrating it must be to be a spy on the front lines having to deal with shit like this. Reminds me of when Bill Clinton refused to greenlight heavy support for the Somalia raid that lead to the Black Hawk Down incident.

Nonetheless, there shouldn't be a single thing distracting from the Russia/Trump investigation. The national security implications are so massive on that one, that I'll say it again - I am utterly astonished at the pushback from Republicans on this.

So what is stopping the president from declassifying the material in question that Rice supposedly requested be unmasked? Remember Nunes said he didn't think it held much foreign intelligence value.

It seems if there was anything bad that Rice did it would be in his best interest to declassify.

Technically the House investigation is still underway, Nunes was just refusing to do anything or schedule anyone to testify. I expect the next dweeb to pretty much act the same, so yea, the house investigation is essentially dead unless you think deciphering Schiff's cryptic tweets or investigating Hispanic entertainers hired by democrats is useful.

2 bombshells today; 1st we find out that there was probable cause Carter Page was a foreign agent and now the payout to Manafort that was contained in the ledger and also part of the attempted blackmail has been confirmed

AP Exclusive: Manafort firm received Ukraine ledger payout
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/ap-exclusive-manafort-firm-received-ukraine-ledger-payout/ar-BBzKrWA?ocid=sf
Quote :
"WASHINGTON (AP) — Last August, a handwritten ledger surfaced in Ukraine with dollar amounts and dates next to the name of Paul Manafort, who was then Donald Trump's campaign chairman.

Ukrainian investigators called it evidence of off-the-books payments from a pro-Russian political party — and part of a larger pattern of corruption under the country's former president. Manafort, who worked for the party as an international political consultant, has publicly questioned the ledger's authenticity.

Now, financial records newly obtained by The Associated Press confirm that at least $1.2 million in payments listed in the ledger next to Manafort's name were actually received by his consulting firm in the United States. They include payments in 2007 and 2009, providing the first evidence that Manafort's firm received at least some money listed in the so-called Black Ledger."

there is now very little doubt that trump surrounded himself with people acting for russian interests; the only question now is what did trump know, when did he know it, and how compromised is trump

Well, Sessions steered Trump toward Page, allegedly, so there might be some plausible deniability there for Trump.

Manafort worked with Roger Stone for decades at their PR firm, and stone has been "friends" with Trump for a while.

They all run in DC PR circles so I imagine they're all acquainted on some level.

Also Manafort has been working PR for foreign governments/clients for decades, there is no possible way he didn't know he needed to register as a foreign agent.
