I am bummed to hear that we are out of it with Archie according to Insider. If we could get one of the other names being mentioned I would be pretty happy. Moton is at a lower level league but he has a track record of solid teams and seems like he could recruit at State.

Ok, I know this is weird, but my source in the office sent me what he says is a "definitive" piece of information on who our next coach is, but he sent it to me in freaking code, lol. He's a jokster, and enjoying his power in this search to the hilt, but he says this is 100% legit, so if somebody knows how to crack this, we might have some really juicy evidence (as yall like to make fun of me for the juicy). Here it is:

I think Moton is a good coach and I like him but he's probably fairly far down our list given his level of competition. Would also mean he'd have a, potentially, steeper learning curve

^^Man you are a bully, just block my post if you are going to be so negative.

I think its morse code, (dots and dashes?). This is 100% legit I swear.

Look imma a 40 something, but me and my buddies still Josh around like you guys- that stuff never dies. We all went to state together, and when we get together, its just like being back at Capperells talking to girls and hustling pool.

He sent it to me in morse code as a joke, but the info is likely 100% real. Take it for what it is. I'm not like an indian wind talker, so if somebody here is an ROTC student, maybe we can crack this thing together and figure something out.

Yes he does. Navy pilot. Flew E-3's Out of Whidbey before transitioning to current job. He's a geek about old military code.

Will Wade is who he has been teasing this whole time (I translated the damn thing by hand over last couple hours, but still glad to know there is an easy translation method on internet kdogg!) I'm excited for this hire, as I trust my my source with my life

I hope they aren't as bad as our media team.
http://www.gopack.com/news/2017/3/1/mens-basketball-clemson-slips-past-the-pack-78-74.aspx

NC State will be back in action Tuesday in the ACC Tournament. The Pack's seed, opponent and game time will be determined by the result of the Pittsburgh at Notre Dame on Saturday. If Pittsburgh loses to Notre Dame, NC State will be the 13th-seed and play 12th-seed Clemson Tuesday at noon. If Pittsburgh wins at Notre Dame, the Pack will be the 14th-see and will play at 7 p.m.

I hope that is an intern that wrote that. Go check to see who Pitt plays....

not saying we should consider it at the moment, but I wonder if any women could be serious candidates for men's bball HC jobs in the near future?

there have only been a handful of women assistant coaches in mens college basketball, so i doubt there will be a female head coach any time soon. hell, it would probably happen in the NBA before the NCAA.

yeah it'll happen eventually i'm sure...but right now there's just a general lack of experienced women coaching men's bball for any to take a head coaching job or be considered qualified candidates for a HC position. they'd definitely have to start at a real low level i would think.

Listen, nothing is happening with this search, the basketball season ended 3 weeks ago when we announced that Gott would be fired, and baseball and spring football just aren't interesting enough yet. We got to manufacture some excitement out of these threads somehow.

Yes, I meant P-3's. Reconnaissance 4 engine type deal. He flew out of same base as that one P-3 that collided with the Chinese jet like 10 years ago and had to crash land.

Haven't studied Wade's coaching ability, but he lost to Dayton so probably something missing from his skillset

Still hoping for Archie or Marshall, but honestly the team recruits itself so just give us someone who can help the players give a damn, help them develop over time, teach them how to lead on the court, and be well rounded on both sides of the floor.

That would give us a top 25 team every year, because talent has never been the problem here. Retaining/teaching/growing/coaching has been the main problem. Talent deficiencies in specific positions can be overcome by good coaching.

KEATTS KEATTS KEATTS!
UNC WIlmington: 26-5 (15-3 Colonial)
Remember Wilmington from last year’s tournament? Its game vs. Duke was the first tip of that opening Thursday. Kevin Keatts’ team pushed the Blue Devils. Now Keatts, who will be in the coaching carousel rumor mill over the next month, has the most ball-responsible team in the nation. The Seahawks turn it over just 13.8 percent of the time, better than anyone in America. And UNC-W ranks as a top-30 points-per-possession team, too.
While I think schools like Middle and Monmouth would be the two most popular 12/13/14-seed upset choices, Wilmington would probably be third. The Seahawks did lose to Middle on a neutral floor but took out East Tennessee State and St. Bonaventure, and crushed a lot of bad teams along the way. Also: a top-10 team in 2-point field goal percentage, and the way Wilmington plays defense (they don’t give up a lot of 3s) inherently keeps games close; opponents shoot 28.7 percent of their field goal attempts from deep, which is well below the nation’s average of 36.4.

Yall know Debbie? the same Debbie been AD at state for how long now?

She likes guys that have track records at big time programs.

It has been slipped that it's a very short list that Debbie has but strong candidates. That's about as far as I've heard. Even JOE Ovies stated something along those lines yesterday. I dont think it'll be too far after the ACC tournament and NCAA selection honestly.

reasonable fear about Keatts, imo. i posted about it on the last page...i haven't watched UNCW this year. but they are small. their biggest guy that gets regular minutes is 6'7". that is probably a factor defensively. they also are top 60 in forcing turnovers. so that's at least somewhat encouraging...i think we are ranked in the 300s in forcing turnovers. i'm not trying to defend Keatts, because i really don't know much about him. just trying to get some context for the poor defensive stats he's had at UNCW.

Quote :
"My biggest fear with Keatts is that we have a fuckin prostitution scandal ala Louisville and the NCAA sets the program back 25 years again while the cheaters up the road get nothing."

he hasn't been tied to that at all. but, yeah, i'm sure we should and would vet that thoroughly before hiring him.

Quote :
"She likes guys that have track records at big time programs. "

sure, but what guy with a track record at a "big time" program is coming here? she might prefer that type of candidate, but that doesn't mean we're getting that type of candidate. i guess we can call Butler a "big time" program kinda and that would mean Holtmann would fit that description. but otherwise, it's a very short list of guys with good track records at big time programs that are going to leave their current job for us.

we've said it before...if you're getting a coach with big time program experience to leave his current job, it's likely because that coach has baggage that makes him less attractive (maybe NCAA troubles) or because that coach is currently on the hot seat/worn out his welcome at his current school (Tom Crean this year, Jamie Dixon going to TCU last year, Sendek when he went to Az St). there are no perfect realistic candidates...but i really think the best way to find the closest thing to that, is to get the young up and comer who may lack a little experience but has otherwise proven himself and checks off all the boxes we want in a coach - style, attitude, recruiting, etc

our football search got us a young coach from NIU. he had a very limited track record at a mid-major program. we didn't go the extensive track record at a big program route there, obviously.

that is completely unsurprising. moton is a very good coach who i'm sure hodge knows well (from summer league and whatnot around the area). Moton basically being the floor in this coaching search is a very positive thing because he is good.
