I love dogs. We've had 2-3 rescues going back over a decade. I would never invite a pit into the house. Any animal is unpredictable, but how many retrievers make the news for mauling children? We keep hounds (beagles, bassetts, coon hounds) which seem to have a pretty good track record.

Hey if you want to own pits, that's your right.

But if you put those dogs around your children, or fail to secure them from getting to other people, then that's on you.

There's a pit in our neighborhood that has gotten loose several times, and each time, a neighbor has lost a pet. There's video of this dog ripping a cat to shreds. He seems ok with people, but they all do. Until they aren't.

in an "ideal world", big-ish dogs would obviously still be kept as man's best friend, but only owned and kept for a purpose

like people on farms keeping them to protect their crop or whatever

and then have their own place on the property to roam around a bit I guess and be an animal

I think keeping bigger dogs inside houses/apartments/trailers, while obviously most of the time doesn't do much, over time can exacerbate the factors that cause them to attack
is it natural for them?

idk this might just all be BS, I don't know much about dogs

While I'm a big fan of pit bulls and some of the coolest dogs i've met are that breed.... I agree, those dogs (just like almost all dogs) shouldn't be kept solely indoors, especially in a tiny home/apartment. I would assume that could cause them to be more aggressive.

some large dog breeds are low energy and do fine in apartments, while some small breeds need lots of exercise. but there is plenty of truth in general to ^^
