I'm going to say it's a mixed blessing. People who are active can always just upload again. The benefit is that it cleans out the galleries of those people who have 0-5 posts (that have been a member for a good amount of time), or haven't posted/logged on in 2 years or so, especially if they have 200+ pics. That will save some bandwith.

(This all depends on if the galleries cannot be restored by the mods).

our backup is being restored. unfortunately the indexes in our backup seem a little out of wack. pictures could be mismatched between galleries

i am going to continue with the backup tomorrow. there are definitely going to be some fucked up pictures.

technically--- this fucking sucks. the backup seemed to index the files based on a 16 bit key. the key overflowed by the sheer amount of pictures we have. luckily it seemed to be the biggest of problems later in the backup set around R or S things got really wacky. A-G seem to be mostly fine.

i'm backup up the remaining stuff that we do have and then backing up the backups before we do a full restore. backing this thing up is a MAJOR pain in the ass. takes a few hours for the full backup

i did have to delete a lot of the data because we are trying to preserve integrity. for any thumbnail that wasn't thumbnail size (meaning it got switched with a full size), i deleted the thumbnail and fullsize. for any fullsize that was thumbnail size, i did the same. we probably retained 75% of the A-G we had before.

anyway, in order to get the integrity back together, i am going to be picking back up work on the new photo gallery enhancements. going to the the gallery we will be re-thumbnailing all images.
