quite possibly the best "free-standing" comic series ever
frank millers vision, pure and simple he wrote and illustrated it [right?] and now he is writing it and co-directing it which is why rodriguez had to quit the directors guild, so the movie could have two directors...
all the cast needs now:
lets get on that folks, k?

A lot of that cast list isn't correct. Several of those people are just rumored and haven't signed on. For instance, Nicholas Stahl has signed on in the role that Leonardo DiCaprio has presumably up for. Plus I believe Alba is taking the spot of King, Murhpy, or Bosworth. 5/3/2004 10:52:43 AM |

bartleby - i figured it wasn't all correct also - alba is in the bruce willis story arc, so she's probably taking the britany murphy spot - which i'm fully happy with 5/3/2004 6:50:33 PM |

With Miller co-directing and writing the screenplay, there's little to no chance that it won't be true to the source.

Okay, here's where the cast stands now and which character they're playing from the best I can tell.
Sin City Mickey Rourke = Marv Jaime King = Wendy/Goldie Carla Gugino = Lucille Elijah Wood = Kevin
That Yellow Bastard Bruce Willis = John Hartigan Jessica Alba = Nancy Callahan Nick Stahl = Junior
A Dame to Kill For Josh Hartnett = Dwight Marley Shelton = Mary Rick Gomez = Burt Shlubb = Gail = Ava
Hell and Back Rosario Dawson = Esther Benicio Del Toro = Wallace Clive Owen = The Colonel Brittany Murphy = Shellie Chiaki Kuriyama = Miho 6/2/2004 4:24:05 PM |

ok, although i dont like ALOT of the movies these "all stars"have been in, they have been in in a few "blockbuster" films. but some others are cult classic actors. just for friendly sport or personal preference:
hartnett: pearl harbor, h20, 40 days and 40 nights (i hated p. harbor. what piece of shit. who the fuck would put him as a main character if they didnt think he'd have at least a decent draw?) bucscemi: cult actor. how could you disagree with this. he's funny to no end and i think he can play a character for this comic to a t benicio del toro: fear and loathing in las vegas, traffic, usual suspects. c'mon, the guy is a good actor, i like the films hes been. hes garnering respect. unlike that pearl harbor shit. michael douglas: c'mon brittany murphy: not an all star, but shes not bad. she was in 8mile and clueless. sure, not any hott movies by any means, but not too bad. mickey rourke: hes not too bad. not an all-star but hes been in some decent roles i liked him in. once upon a time in mexico, get carter. he fits his char marv to a t as well. christopher walken: another gimmie bruce willis: regardless of if you think hes a bad actor or what not (although i think hes decent) hes a box office draw. elijah wood: what was he before l.o.t.r?
so, in conclusion, who other than halle berry and patrick stuart and ian mckellan (besides lotr fame) was a really big draw for xmen? how about lotr? ian mckellan and elijah wood? (i really like cate blanchett but who still knows who she is. liv tyler isnt great but she has a name).
i think this assembled cast isnt bad. perhaps all-star is a stretch but its not too far off. its not like they have tom cruise, bruce willis, arnold, vin and some other big draws but it aint shabby. 7/27/2004 1:30:56 AM |

X-Men: Hugh Jackman. Famke Jannsen isn’t a slouch either. LotR: Orlando Bloom, Viggo Mortensen, and Sean Astin, not to mention Hugo Weaving, but that was from Matrix fame.
Bruce Campbell is a cult actor, not Buscemi or Walken.
As far as your reasoning on actors: You may also know that he was in the movies Hollywood Homicide, The Faculty, and Black Hawk Down. He didn’t do bad in those movies. Maybe I’ll give you slack on Douglas, considering his only good movie is “Traffic.” Britney Murphy is a hyped, yet comical actress, but can play those serious roles like in 8 Mile. Bruce Willis is NO WAY NEAR a DECENT ACTOR. He’s really a GREAT actor. You see the roles he played in like the Die Hard series, 5th Element, and let us not forget him as Butch in “Pulp Fiction.” Genius. If he wasn’t in the 5th element, that movie would have been total garbage. Oh yeah, Elijah Wood, want great performances, watch “The Faculty”, “Radio Flyer”, and “The Good Son.” He was excellent in those.
Benecio Del Toro was the only guy I agreed with you on. He was also good in “The Fan” and “Way of the Gun.”
Rebute if you feel like it. 7/27/2004 1:56:24 AM |
Docido All American 4642 Posts user info edit post |
im not here to bitch about it. i think you have alot of good points. you're right, hartnett was in hollywood homicide and blackhawk down, the faculty. if you think hollywood was anything to be happy about, ill have to say you're numb. i liked blackhawk and the faculty was entertaining. douglas was in wall street and he was solid. the game wasnt bad either. i didnt see the need to say anything about willis in pulp fiction because i think that speaks for itself. i like willis. elijah isnt too bad but you're right, i overlooked some of the films hes been in.
but what im saying, what was jackman, jansen (not rounders) known for before xmen? oh yea, weaving? what had anyone else known him before matrix and lotr? i think they'e not bad, more jackman than jansen.
so you cant discount the cast in sin city if you're saying after the fact celebrity.
btw, way of the gun was funny. i actually enjoyed ryan p. in that.

Sorry if I sounded too demanding on my point. I didn't want to be too imposing. I remember Jackman was in Kate and Leopold, but that was after X-Men, so you got me, and Janssen was also in the Faculty (lol), and Goldeneye. She was good in those movies too. Weaving seemed like he was in a lot of other non-popular films in America, but was considered a great actor from Australia.
That's my take, and I can't support it anymore. 7/27/2004 2:17:10 AM |
