Wait for Dell to run a special on the 19", they've dropped as far as 260 I think in the past month or so...I have one, it's super great. 5/30/2005 10:00:15 PM |

ok i'll try to hold out until they run another special
is 0.294 dot pitch on the 19" all right?
i've always heard to aim for <0.28 pitch 5/30/2005 10:03:43 PM |

I don't care about dot pitch or anything, all I know is that my 1905fp is a great fuckin LCD monitor and it was highly rated in all the reviews. I add my voice as a 3rd to watch slickdeals.net for another deal on the Dell 1905fp. 5/30/2005 11:52:16 PM |

you won't find a dot pitch that low on an LCD without paying out the ass for it
it's a fact that CRTs are sharper than most LCDs, it's a sacrifice you make - at least that's my understanding of it. the ultrasharps still look great though, and if you're like me and use a laptop most of the time anyway, it's easy to adjust. just make sure you run it at the intended resolution/frequency - 1280x1024@60hz
and lately dell seems to run specials on these things every couple weeks or so

this monitor will be replacing a Viewsonic 17" CRT
i have the Dell Ultra Sharp 17" at work and i really like it
i just think i'll be happier with the 19"
the 19" has the 4 usb 2.0 ports on the front and i definitely could use that since the only usb ports on my computer are in the back and i have to move my desk and practically stand on my head whenever i need to access them 5/31/2005 12:18:25 AM |

higher contrast ratio doesn't always = greater picture, if you didn't already know that. i'd be scared to buy something cheap that had a 1000:1, unless it has consistent positive reviews. 5/31/2005 9:19:14 AM |

the back of my docking station has 2 video outputs. One Stadard VGA and on DVI. I can't plug a DVI-VGA converter in the DVI because the larger flat connector in the converter is bigger than the back of the docking station. Why is that? Someone told me it's because it's setup for a true digital monitor. How can you tell the difference b/n true digital and "fake" digital? Can you find a true digital CRT? I have PLENTY of space on my desk for 2 21" monitors. 6/3/2005 6:37:36 AM |

it should look like that i don't think there is more than one type of DVI connector
what does yours look like?
6/3/2005 10:06:41 AM |
constovich All American 2340 Posts user info edit post |
There are three types of DVI connectors
DVI-A (analog only) there is the large field of holes and then to the right is just 4 holes
DVI-D (digital only) there is the large field of holes and then to the right is one horizontal bar
DVI-I (both) there is the large field of holes and then to the right is four pins with a cross in the middle (like the picture above)
If you only have DVI-D, then the adapter would be useless since you can't get an analog signal from a digital output. (I learned the hard way since Sony only puts DVI-D connectors on their cards so they you have to buy one of their digital monitors) 6/3/2005 10:51:18 AM |

Noen and I talked about this extensively last night. I decided that I'm going to go with the Samsung 915N. It was on sale yesterday for $314 at newegg. I still have to decide whether I want to sink money into a flat panel, a carputer, or a supercharger for said car. 6/30/2005 7:27:23 PM |

^ I jumped. Its somewhat misleading as you have to add on $21 worth of crap (in my case a camera bag), but $250 w/ next day shipping for the monitor (and camera bag) isn't bad. 7/26/2005 7:06:01 PM |

It's not what I'm getting. After the 19" monitor and a $22 USB Hub, it's coming out to be $280 + tax =~ $300. And that's with the free 3-5 day shipping. Next day shipping was an additional $30. Was the deal supposed to be before 8:00 or something? 7/26/2005 9:10:28 PM |
