whateva, i think it's fine...much more direct than any number combo of "X.X", Millenium (the biggest piece of crap), or a group of initials (XP, NT, etc.)

did they just change the codename? or is this what XP was to whistler & 98 to Memphis?

as most probably know...they follow schemes with their codenames....i think all the ones of late have to do with ski mtns.

like Whistler = XP, Blackcomb = Successor. both are mountains, and Longhorn is some bar near them.

Windows Vista
Windows VI
Windows 6

Isn't Windows XP or Server 2003 also Windows 5.2?

i wish they would leave the codenames as the final product name, theyre much better than the end title

windows 2000 is nt 5.0
windows xp is nt 5.1
windows 2003 is nt 5.2

the numbers are the first 2 numbers of the nt kernal

unless there are major changes to the kernal in windows vista its probably nt 5.3

Windows 2003 is also 5.1. Windows XP x64 (and probably server x64) are 5.2.

well the drukenblog dude likes it, and i must say, i agree with him -
http://www.drunkenblog.com/drunkenblog-archives/000582.html

for whatever reason, when i went to the Vista webpage I had a good "emotional response" to the name and the horizon imagery and whatnot. As long as Apple is getting away with Panter and Tiger, there's no reason MS has to stick with numbers (95, 98, 2000, 2003) which automatically date your product, or somewhat meaninless initials (NT, XP)

Seriously.

If you have a major commercial software property, can you have any change of suing Microsoft and winning in court?

I mean, what if they called it Microsoft Photoshop? Coming in 2006, Microsoft Quake 3!!!

Another tech company has already filed suit on the Vista name.

And they have a helacious good case, because it's a publicly known product, and the company is located like 30 minutes from microsoft. HAHAHAHA

From Posts From the Future day on Google Blogoscoped,
Quote :
"No More Security Updates for Windows Vista

Microsoft today announced it will stop securing holes in their old Windows Vista software product. This came just two months after Sasser2015 wreaked havoc on computers of mostly older people unwilling to upgrade. Microsoft’s CEO Robert Scoble said that “unwillingness to upgrade was the reason dinosaurs are extinguished.” "
