so my 98 honda accord had some light come on the other day and it turns out to be the malfunction light which turns out to come on when "the engines emissions control systems may have a problem"
whats a good place to get this fixed at and around how much should it cost 7/26/2005 10:28:25 AM |

the "malfunction" light came on and i looked in the manual and all it said is that something with the emissions is wrong and it could mess up my engine if i drive it like that for long, plus it said my fuel economny could be shitty until i fix it
idk whats wrong with it, i guess i'll have to find a mechanic and let him tell me 7/26/2005 11:05:39 AM |

Have you checked your muffler bearings? When they go bad all hell breaks loose.

Seriously, give Rex @ Happy Jap's a call. His shop is in Cary, over on Johnson St diagonally behind Woody's.

isnt that car OBDII? I think a few people on here have an OBDII reader and might be willing to pull codes for you. BUt it shouldnt cost more than $100 or so to have a mechanic read and diagnoseit for you. Wish I could help, but my reader/computer does not do OBDII cars.
Good luck! 7/26/2005 2:58:28 PM |

I usually go to El Rodeo if I'm in the mood for an emissions problem. 7/26/2005 3:22:54 PM |

PO420 catalyst efficiency below threshhold or whatever
happens all the time, clear the code if he didnt do it for you and start running a higher grade gas
if it recurs then, have the cat checked at any muffler shop and then if it is working properly replace the downstream O2 first

ok heres the deal
youll have more money for if you have the code cleared and the higher grade gas fixes it
but check it out, even if it dosent fix it, you still have more $ for !!1

youll have to have it reset. take it back to autozone and have them clear the code after you fill up and drive a while. 7/28/2005 6:03:06 PM |
