I'm going to be polishing my wheels in the next month, and i was wondering if anyone knew of a place where i could get 1000 grit (maybe higher) grit paper and aluminum polish inexpensively, locally. i think it might just be cheaper to buy it online, but thought i would check here to see if anyone would know of any decent local place.
Thanks 8/7/2005 9:53:44 PM |

You should be able to get sandpaper at Home Depot or Lowes and some Mother Billet polish at most autoparts stores. Not that hard. Though polishing is some work...pics of said wheels? 8/7/2005 10:09:38 PM |

Home depot doesn't have a wide selection of sandpaper. I remember when i was painting my hood that my local depot (like a mile away), didn't have anything above 800. another place to get 1000-2000 grit are at your local car stores like autozone or advanced auto parts. As for sandpaper online, I don't think it is worth your time buying it online since your project is fairly small. They are only like 3 bucks for a few sheets. 8/7/2005 10:22:36 PM |

^^^ Thanks for the head's up - didnt know there was a thread like that in here.
^^ There's a pic of them on my car in my gallery, not very close up. They are BBS RM's. I'm going to strip, repaint the barrels, polish the lips and bolts and re-clearcoat. It'll take a while, but it'll be a good winter project.
i actually think i will need a decent amount of it, so I was hoping to get a better deal on it. I'll have to check out hobby stores. Thanks. 8/7/2005 11:10:06 PM |

youre best bet is discount auto parts stores. body shop supply stores will have a better deal, but to take advantage of it you might have to buy in a large quantity. 8/7/2005 11:18:38 PM |

like zxappeal said carquest is the way to to, especially the paint store off of wake forest...
I also have an extra tube of wenol polish if your interested..
and even better I have an extra set of lips from my RS' (1" lips instead of the stock .5" lips on the RMs) that i would let go for pretty cheap...
And I would replace the bolts instead of refinishing them, alot less hassle...
Oh and make sure you have a 12 point 8mm socket you DO NOT want to round these off... 8/8/2005 1:53:14 AM |

okay so you are going to take the lip off and just polish that? 8/8/2005 6:57:52 AM |

Probably not going to even remove the lips, justy polish them on the wheels. Seems like an unnecessary step to remove them. I plan to just remove the bolts, polish, paint the centers, and replace the bolts.
^^DJ Philly - I'd be interested if i wasnt trying to do this cheaply. I'm not trying to make them show quality at all, just nicer than they are. But if you're willing to part with those lips cheaply (maybe even 2?) hit me up with a price, and i'll definitely consider it. Are they kodiak lips, or stock bbs? 8/8/2005 3:09:01 PM |

the lips I have are the stock bbs ones so they match the rm lips just a little wider
I would be willing to sell you two. You should come by the shop and look at them, that would probably be the easiest way... 8/9/2005 11:20:31 AM |
