I was just wondering how good some of you guys out there are with your 3d models in Solid Works or Inventor; whatever you use. I made this back in jr. year of highschool in inventor, havent screwed with it since.
Thought it was cool in highschool
Based off a Rally II for a 76 Formula
Haha impessive=impressive

(k, I'll admit it, the UG one wasn't done by me I just told my teammate what to draw. The CMARC was created (manually) from the UG model. Point by fucking point.) 8/7/2005 11:56:23 PM |

I made a 3-d drawing for a trailer I wanted to build in Solidworks after tooling around with it for about 3 hours. But its not on par with what you guys have here.
I'm designing a catamaran hull on paper right now that I want to model in solidworks and then have one of you engineers run some fluid analysis stuff on it.
The last one I designed floated naturally upside down 8/8/2005 8:43:16 AM |

I took a class a comm. college when I was a sophomore in highschool for beginners 3d Studio Max. While all the other old ppl were learning how to make boxes I was making an Xwing and Tie Fighter dogfight scene. Wish I still had the files though. The next semester they cancelled the class for some reason, I was pissed, wish I had kept going, prolly would have a job by now. 8/8/2005 9:06:21 AM |

Maugan: You should REALLY be using Rhinoceros for Hull / Boat design. It's THE 3d package for boats. Of course you have to get the ungodly expensive hull packages to be able to do it, but its the way to go. 8/8/2005 12:50:42 PM |

I know I should be using other software, but I really just want to tool around with it. Eventually I want to make a plug out of whatever I finalize but I don't know any of the other software packages and I'm not real keen on learning a new one 8/8/2005 2:01:51 PM |

Rhino takes about a day to learn primitives and maybe a week to learn complex surfacing. Solidworks is the anti-christ of modeling programs, so if you somehow figured it out, Rhino is cake. 8/9/2005 12:19:35 AM |

The only one I've ever used is Inventor and a little bit on Solidworks. Inventor is a pain because you have to draw 2d images then extract them outward and shape them. There has to be a better way to do it. But I thought my wheel was pretty cool. 8/9/2005 5:48:48 PM |

Solidworks was pretty straight forward to me.
I spend about an hour going through the online tutorials and off I went. 8/9/2005 6:08:43 PM |

Solidworks is ridiculously easy. By far the most user friendly and easy CAD program I've used. 8/9/2005 10:32:27 PM |
