TWC offered me a dvr for 10 bucks a month. Can you buy these things on the market? Or do you have to go with what the company has?

You can buy these things at most electronics places (e.g. best buy). Buy a cheap one and hack it.

Replace the little hard drives with massive ones so that you can record for centuries at a time.

Will any ole hard drive work in a tivo?

How much is involved with it? I mean, I've installed hard drives before on computers, but i've never seen the insides of a tivo.

You'll find dozens of sites that give painfully detailed instructions.

The site has been blocked by the corporate network. The topic "hacking" has been deemed inappropriate for the workplace.

Gotta wait till I get home now.

Look up how to use a proxy server while you're there.

the twc HD dvr is better than ANY tivo unit, hacked or not.

It's WELL worth the 7 bucks a month, it comes with 160gb hard drive and is badass.
