FanSurge.com is a free new live events website that was recently out of Raleigh by a small independent team of musicians and developers, and is about to explode nationwide. Fans can track gigs posted by artists or venues in he "FanCenter," nationwide! It already has hundreds of events and users. Forums, export calendar, favorites, and more. Free, no ads, no spam. Very cool.
Finally a site where fans, artists, and venues can all hook up and communicate freely. This site could really help improve live event awareness and attendence by making it easy for fans. The more bands and venue that use it, the more convenient it is for fans, so tell friends everywhere. http://www.fansurge.com 8/19/2005 1:46:52 PM |

MySpace is huge, no doubt. BTW, did you know they just got purchased by Rupert Murdoch for a cool $580MM!! FanSurge has some bands (Brad Benson, Zegg, Lucky 13) that use both for different features. The exportable calendar feature, free at FanSurge, is a feature that is currently offered by sonicbids for a charge, but is not available from Myspace. No other sites currently seem to have accounts specifically for fans, artists and venues, which is why a number of venues have already paid a small fee for accounts as an alternative to traditional advertising. is someone subjectively weeding out the lame bands?
it'd make my work a lot easier having to sort through ~10 bands as opposed to thousands 8/19/2005 2:32:46 PM |

Re: weeding out lame bands - good point. Some people like the convenience, others don't like to be "told" who to go see. ie) Who is the weeder, and why should I like what she likes.., etc. This is the problem with MySpace being purchased by Rupert Murdoch, et al. FanSurge tries to level the playing field for as many participants as possible. No pictures, no ads, no sounds, just pure event information. Rankings of various criteria like page views and feedback would be helpful. 8/19/2005 2:54:54 PM |
