So I live in a country where the internet is censored.

Anything anti-government, anti-Islam, and or even remotely sexual, is blocked.

How can I overcome this?

Currently I connect through a modem, and with the implementation of a new system recently, no username, password, or proxy server is needed. I might be moving on to DSL soon.

Anyway, so I how do access the internet, the whole internet?

Heck, thewolfweb.com is blocked! They must have come upon the huge amount of sexual material here. Lucky me, brentroad.com is still accessible. But who knows what will happen in the future.

if they're all blocked, then you can have someone set up a proxy for you that is allowed by your ISP.

the target pc would have to be set up to allow proxy browsing, so you couldn't use one of the lab pc's. a few people here run their own for the hell of it or to get around this same problem at work, so maybe they can help.

There are a few websites where you can "browse" in. Essentially, you go to the website and they have an area for you to enter the URL you want to go in and it opens as a window within that website. It has worked with my work filter a few times.

btw out of curiousity, what would they do if they found out you were accessing material that was supposed to be blocked?

OK, so if I tried it, what chances are there that they would find out? Every webpage accessed in this country, passes through some science and technology center run by the government. Would they have have equipment or monitors that could see information coming in to the country through other gates? If they could, does that mean they also monitor some common proxies? Can that be done? I mean, I cannot monitor just any proxy, can I? So what do you think they do?

Anyway, my problem hasn't been solved yet.

If they do find out and there is a rude knocking on the door, first I will claim innocence. If that doesn't work, I will go through my ordeal, and once I have been deported, I will go the world press and talk shows: to malign SA, and to make me rich and famous also

Needless to say, I will sanitize my browser after each browsing session.

So, anybody can help?

first you would have to assume they aren't reading this - as long as you aren't going to any flagged sites you should be fine - they don't have the resources to monitor every site actively

you'll probably want an American friend of yours to set up an encrypted proxy on an odd port

anything other than that could feasibly get you arrested, I reckon, including posting on the Internet asking how to circumvent their monitoring and filitering

keep in mind that if they suspect you, they can still log your encrypted traffic and decrypt it after torturing the key out of you

forward port 80 from a machine in a less shitty country over an ssl connection. it will be encrypted and private if you can find someone nice enough to do it for you. the only issue is speed.

Replace u= variable with your url and you get complete two way anonymous surfing. It "translates" from english to english. so it really doesnt do anything (should display non-english languages in their native tongue as well, if not just change the lang pairs to match)

anyway, trap, if you need a proxy set up, I would recommend someone in a non-restricted country setting up a copy of hand crafted software's "freeproxy" for you, using some SSL encryption and whatnot.

also, is it not REALLY hilarious to anyone here that Saudi Arabia's nationwide internet censorship can be outdone by google translation? Anyone?

Could always connect a machine in the US (or wherever) using SSH/SSL/Remote Desktop as has been suggested. I'd personally prefer remote desktop, and I'm sure you could find a relative/friend who wouldn't mind leaving their computer on at night ... time zone difference would probably work out.
