who's down for a hip hop instrumental production contest? you can also include songs with vocals, you just won't see any from me. haven't figured out how to tally votes, but that's not important yet. 8/30/2005 5:50:04 PM |

does anyone else on TWW make beats besides Dijital?
Aside from being one of the best at it in the damn region/state, I'm fairly certain he's the best on TWW. 8/31/2005 4:09:09 AM |

the point is just to see what people on here can make... it would be cool just to see that regardless of the contest aspect of it.

i'm honestly surprised by the lack of interest, having seen a few songs posted on here in the past.
Kris needs to get on this as well 8/31/2005 12:02:36 PM |

I'm down
I even got a beat to post, it's really short and simple though, and I'm not quite sure it's hip hop, but it's 92bpm and it's got a crunk lead.

... I'D WIN!
yeah, aside from Dijital i think i'd have a decent chance of winning this. depends on how sample dependent we're talking. Kris' shit sounds basic, but it's harder to make decent synth sounds from scratch than to throw in a bunch of premade samples (not accusing Dijital of doing this, in fact he might record most or all of his stuff).

Yeah if I was really producing a hiphop song I'd probably just completely rip off and resample Chicago's "Street Player", I think hip hop sounds pretty good just using sampled copies of real instruments, but I don't really much enjoy sampling, it just seems like work chopping up wavs so they loop right, I have my fill with that just getting vocals right. But that's not saying that making synth sounds is all that hard, it can be, especially using complicated VSTs or FM synths, but my juno just pours fat basses out of it, and with only one oscillator and a total of about 15 sliders and 8 buttons, it's a breeze to program, now the micron on the other hand...
I'd say the hardest thing for any producer is mixdown and mastering. I can always get my synths to where I want them, I can never get my effects quite perfect 9/1/2005 4:11:16 PM |

How many cats rhyme over tracks nobody fiends for? Don't fuck around with me if you can only fuck with keyboards Just 'cause lazy niggas use recognizable material Don't mean that dope samples are not original 'Cause a producer with skill can lace tracks Keyboard beats aren't that original, lets face facts That shit was overused in the G-funk era Don't give me that excuse, real emcees want better - RJD2, "F.H.H."

What are the best programs for making beats, mixing, sampling, recording, etc.? Some of these beats sound like the soundtrack for Sega Genesis games.
I'm about to get a new laptop and I'm thinking of getting a powerbook because of all the media capabilities. How does GarageBand stack up to other music programs? 9/4/2005 12:48:56 AM |

Garageband sucks if you're trying to make beats. if you're getting a powerbook, then you should look into getting Reason 9/4/2005 11:56:08 AM |

Reason is probably the best. Fruity Loops is ok too. Also, Acid, Cakewalk, and I've heard Project 5 but never used it. Reason is by far the most flexible.9/4/2005 11:29:34 PM |

So, if I want to start doing this and money isn't a huge issue (I'd still like to get the best bang for my buck), what should I buy to get me set up? I'll be doing a decent amount of sampling and I want to use a lot of different sounds (i.e. bells, sitar, etc.).
Do I absolutely need a powerbook? What else do I need in addition to the laptop and Reason/whatever? 9/4/2005 11:54:20 PM |
