I need to borrow the cdrom from one if anyone would be so kind. Only need it to reinstall the OS on a friends so it would be for a few hours at most. pm me if you've got one

but... he'd also need the drivers. you'd think they'd all be standard drivers, but for some fucking reason OEM/retail copies of windows XP never have drivers for my crappy dell's ethernet drivers, wifi drivers, or usb controller.

oh, and note he does mean the actual drive and not the disc. he's appearently missing one

download necessary drivers to a CD or mem stick...use any other regular windows CD for the reinstall.

am i missing something here?

umm a CDROM is not a drive


It is a CDROM

and I got an OEM copy of Windows XP with my Dell that said "OEM Version: For distribution only with a new PC"

The drivers were on a separate disk.

Is the inspirion the notebook? I've got a 5000e something that doesnt work, you can have the cd drive for like $5. Faceplate needs to be put back on.

sorry, yes that's unclear. I need the DRIVE. I cant get this 4100 to boot off external drives or the cd drive in it.
