you are a dipshit if you think SUV drivers are "suffering"
Johnny the SUV driver is used to paying thirty to fill up
Sally the moped driver usually pays 5 to fill up
Prices go up
=
Both have the same relative increase

at least 85% of people I see driving big SUV's and trucks do not use the vehicle for more than what a car can do. They drive them because they are big and they say they are safer than a car. Not to mention all the moms driving SUVs (attempting to drive?) because they think minivans will make them look silly. 9/1/2005 8:04:26 AM |

my civic takes about 10 gallons to fill. at $2 thats $20, at $3 thats $30. and that tank lasts me a week and a half at 35 mpg. the $10 hit every fillup isnt making me cry.
this chick i work with came in here crying about how shes gonna quit because she cant afford to drive to work. lives in fuquay, drives a 16 mpg 93 octane requiring lincoln LS. i have no sympathy for her.

i agree that hummers and shit are worthless and 99% of the ppl who own them wont use them.
if you want to transport kids there are plenty of medium sized suv's with 3rd row seats like the durango that would work fine.
im sure that a greater percentage of ppl owning small/medium suv's use them to their capacity.
i, for example, drive a grand cherokee. i regularly transport 3-4 ppl + many bags comfortably to the airport and play paintball whenever i can. my bag is huge and the paintball place is in a very craggy dirt road that would be a bitch in car.
are these teh best uses for a grand cherokee? probably not, but it is very nice to have and prevents having to be crammed in long road trips or stuff my car with my pb bag (42x16x19). plus moving in/out of college thats 7+ hrs away with only 1 car is nice.
on 3 seperate occasions ive had to haul stones for our garden this summer as well. wouldnt be close to possible in a car.
what i do is neither impressive nor out of the ordinary, so i wouldnt say suv's are completely uncalled for. 9/1/2005 11:11:36 AM |

My gf's dad drives his Expedition solo to work and back every day (and travels all over the state in it for bridge inspections and stuff), and now his wife is starting to bug him about gas prices. His sole justification for why he needs to keep such a large car is "But I have to transport all that stuff out to Carter-Finley for tailgaiting!" 9/1/2005 11:26:43 AM |

they are fine for ppl that own and use them as a purpose vehicle. pulling a trailer, hauling rocks, etc. my jeep cj is just for fun, but at 13 mpg, it is parked for awhile.
most americans own only one vehicle, and for a lot this vehicle is a damn h2 or rednecksuperduty or burban and so forth.
that is the problem. you cant "use" your burban to drive to work efficiently. 9/1/2005 11:27:22 AM |

this is true. if it was only about needs there would be like 4 consumer cars types. 1 for single/couples, 1 that seats a small family, van for large families, truck for work stuff.
