I'm wanting to add a subwoofer to my car stereo. What difference is there in buying a 12" or a 10" sub, does the 12" just go a little bit lower? I don't want it to be obnoxiously loud, just a little more powerful. I want the bass to be as accurate as possible more than anything, I don't want any rattling. The trunk space is pretty small (Audi TT), so what is the best sub/amp combo I should buy within reason? Someone has already mentioned to me that I should get a JL, and someone else said Polk MOMO. Does anyone know which would be better, and should I get a 12" or a 10"? 9/5/2005 12:37:38 AM |

A good ten. JL 10w7 is me recommendation if you have the money.
You can get a 10 with similar stats, for a good bit less though.

regardles s of the type of sub, rattling may be in issue, if its really a big deal for you, invest in a some dynamt. If you want something kinda entry level, look @ rockford and alpine, if you want something more towards the competition quality sound, check out JL and Cadence. I'd go with a 10" JL, and a matching amp, 200 watt-ish. If you're really trying to save money, get a box on ebay, shouldn't cost you more than a/b $30 shipped. 9/5/2005 1:55:04 AM |

he mentioned space was an issue and the subs y'all are recommending are going to require a decent size box. he needs a good quality sub in a small, sealed enclosure which is why i recommend the Orion 10" subwoofer.
check out the C10D4. only requires .5 cu. ft. of airspace. http://www.orioncaraudio.com/subwoofers/sub_c_series.asp
its cheap too! http://cgi.ebay.com/ORION-C10D4-OR-D2-10-CAR-AUDIO-SUBWOOFER-400W-NEW_W0QQitemZ5803403217QQcategoryZ3291QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and you can get this Orion amp to go power it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ORION-2002-AMPLIFIER-2-CHANNEL-400W-CAR-AMP-05-NEW_W0QQitemZ5804105664QQcategoryZ18796QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If space is really an issue go with 10's or a 12 designed for a small sealed or ported enclosure. Elemental Designs' subwoofers are perfect for small boxes. They also have deals if you buy a complete system (subs, amps, and sound proofing) The best thing to do is to look around and see what is in your price range and make sure you buy from a well known or a well respected company. Also don't be afraid to search sounddomain.com, termpro.com, etc... for used subs. 9/5/2005 3:49:48 PM |

there's too much JL cock riding
The Ascednant Audio Atlas and the Adire Koda are both relatively cheap alternatives that are well made and from good companies, and they have something that most other drivers dont (especially JL)..........XBL^2 motor topology 9/6/2005 3:04:51 PM |

I didn't realize sticking with a proven winner was cockriding. 9/6/2005 3:19:42 PM |

im going to install an infinity basslink in my gf's car next week. ill let you know how it sounds when its in. she just wanted a little "musical" low end w/o sacrificing space in the trunk. basically its a 10" sub w/ a 10" passive radiator powered by a 250w class D amp. all integrated pretty cleanly. it is quite heavy and looks liek a quality piece. well see i guess. you can get em on ebay for $175 new. 9/6/2005 4:15:46 PM |

^^yeah, but i still haven't found what all the hype is about the W6?? besides it being a 6 ohm speaker, what is the big deal? i wouldn't want a single 6 ohm sub. 9/6/2005 10:40:52 PM |

I'm sorry, but I don't even look at the specs of a driver if it is spelled in ebonics, or "Type-R" occurs anywhere in the name. 9/7/2005 4:25:33 AM |

Most all of JL's stuff is quality for the most part. The w6 hype was probably 5-6 years ago and I think making them in 6 ohm was a heavy handed way to try and get you to buy 3 of them for the 4 ohm load.
I will admit that JL does get cock ridden a lot, but when the person interested in the sub starts off with this

Then a JL recommendation is a safe bet and if you stay away from the w6/w7 then you get a lot of value for the money.9/7/2005 9:24:27 AM |

I have heard a couple of those things. They sound really good and I believe they have a plug so that you can easily remove it when you need a little more trunk space. Not quite as loud as a separate sub/amp, but for the price (eBay) and the space that they take I think they are a great addition to most stereos.9/7/2005 9:47:11 AM |
