find the moment of the vertical part and the moment in the horizontal part, then plug into the castigliano equation with the integrals and solve. It took me a while to get that figured out. I'm working on the last one right now. I have to remember/re-teach myself statics to do the joint method of finding the forces in the components. Once you have those, plug into the equation again with a fake force in the x-direction at point c and solve. 9/21/2005 11:30:23 PM |

I'm getting ready to start, but I just realized...is the test tomorrow NIGHT?
I thought it was during class, but on his website it says from 7-9pm...
i'm confused
I just remembered, he did say he was going to do this at one point, since he was gone for those two lectures, he wanted to schedule a test at night so he could "catch up" in lecture, even though I never learn a damn thing in that class
but just want to confirm, I wasn't able to go to all of class yesterday (career fair), so I didn't catch it if he said that

can anyone help on this hw set? i got the 1st 1 but when i go to do the 2nd 1 i get close but not the exact answer. would 2 not be done the same as 1? 10/18/2005 9:23:14 PM |

it's to be done with 2 different methods because when you check to see if the way you did in 1 works, the stress is higher than the yeild strength.
the second method is Pcr/A= Sy- (SY^2/4*Pi^2*E)*(Le/r)^2
that should give you 25.7mm 10/19/2005 7:09:28 AM |
