got done deleting like 100 spyware and adware items from an employee's computer, but now IE wont open. gives the "encountered a problem, needs to close" message.

however if i let a popup open (still a few items on there), then use that IE window to browse, it functions normally.

i reset it to defaults, deleted all BHO's, even removed and reinstalled IE from WinXP disk.

any ideas?

reformat... starting from scratch will give you better performance and you'll spend less time than you would fighting spyware

Once you get it straightened out set a GPO on your network to force better activeX security across all domain computers.
