Where in town can I buy small quantities of high quality automotive paint (not aerosol)?

Car Quest paint store over offa North Market Drive (offa Old Wake Forest Rd).

Auto Paint & Supply over offa Cabarrus near the train station.

Any Barnes Motor Parts.

Look in the Yellow Pages. There are quite a few.

Most will mix a lot of different colors in a pint. A lot of basecoats can be mixed in as little as a half pint.

Yeah that's where I go. The guys there know their shit... ask them anything really about painting cars, doing body work, removing scratches, etc.
