I currently oversee a state-wide student organization website, and we've been using http://ximinc.com for our hosting. We have an extensive user-based site using Mambo content management system so quick database access is crucial. XIMINC is plenty fast, but storage is limited(<100MB) and pricey.($16/mo)
I use Progress Systems(http://progress-systems.com for my personal sites and it works wonderfully for the price, but with Mambo there's a noticeable delay compared to the equivalent XIMINC site.(I pulled out a stopwatch, loaded equivalent pages with a repeatedly emptied browser cache and Progress was consistently slower by 5 or more seconds) How does tqhosting compare in terms of transfer speed and database access times? Can you recommend any other reasonably priced hosts that have an unburdened server?
Thanks.

Yea, Mark setup a demo site for me so I could run a few off-the-cuff tests with Mambo and a stopwatch. tqhosting was within a quarter second of my old host(on average), and progress-systems lagged by a couple seconds. The longest wait I experienced was only a bit over 7secs, so any of them would be adequate, but it looks like tqhosting wins for this application.
Ha, it just occurred to me that I'm now using all three of TWW's biggest hosting providers simultaneously for different sites.(enable/advanced, progress, tqhosting) I guess I'm in a pretty objective position. 9/8/2005 11:29:44 PM |
