thinking dell but i've never had one before. i hear the customer support sucks. those of you that have or have had one what are your impressions? also is there an easy and cost-efficient way to transfer large portions of my old hard drives to my new comp.? 9/21/2005 11:42:58 AM |

in my opinion, the dell tech support is pretty good, i'd take the route if i were buying a new pc. Thinkpads are pretty decent also, they'll cost you a bit more, but in my experience, they've got decent longevity with a relatively low amount of problems. As far as transfering your data, chcek out tiger direct on capital and pick up one an IDE to USB converter. It'll run you $20, your comp reads the hard drive as a mass storage device, its drag and drop from there. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1225711&CatId=470 9/21/2005 11:47:43 AM |

well i'm thinking about getting a desktop actually and looking on IBM's website I only see 3 different kinds. the reason i was kind of drifting towards a dell is because i customize it more, but they look more expensive. would you still recommend one of these think center's to a dell dimension 5100? 9/21/2005 3:04:46 PM |

yeah i see where they let you do that too now. i don't use my computer for games, but i do listen to music and watch movies on it. the one i have right now (not in front of me at the moment) goes real slow sometimes when i run to many programs. with that in mind how much total memory would you recommend me getting? 9/21/2005 3:17:39 PM |

Keep an eye on slickdeals.net for good Dell coupons.
NEVER buy a Dell without at least one internet coupon, sometimes more. You can rack up big savings that way.
And Dell support is fine, just use email b/c text can't have an Indian accent. 9/21/2005 3:19:07 PM |

don't buy IBM desktops. you can get an equivelent dell for much less. if it's a laptop, thinkpads are awesome, but there's nothing really to justify the premium on IBM desktops for most people.
as per the suggestion of the guy above, check these places for periodic coupons
