i've got a 1991 MR2 turbo, 150k miles, all eletrical is working fine, air conditioning needs a fix (but i never use it,) turbo runs great, engine runs great (before this recent problem see below)
i just had the alternater replaced
car needs new struts, maybe springs, they're very very worn out
but DEFINANTLY needs to have:
valve gaskets replaced (oil leaking into tubes holding wires to spark plugs)
valve/gasket replaced in the intake manifold (not sure if it is valve or gasket yet) because i'm losing vaccuum and acceleration is going to pot
is it really worth it anymore or should i just sell it... i'm not a mechanic, but i have the manufacturer's book for the car so i could possibly do the work, although it may take me forever. the LABOR for this work is pretty expensive if i don't do it myself.
not sure what i should do about it anymore or if i could get much for it if i sold it. 9/23/2005 12:01:31 AM |

what kind of tools am i going to need to check the intake manifold anyhow? all i can think of i'd need to check would be the gaskets and the vacuum line.. but i have to take the entire engine out.. fuck fuck fuck 9/23/2005 9:44:48 AM |

You need somebody to help you out.
I'm pretty cheap, and I do a lot of car work...
Valve cover gasket is no problem at all. vacuum leak may take time to find, but there's no reason to have to pull the engine to do it. 9/23/2005 10:19:02 AM |

Yep, got a garage. Got tools. And this weekend it looks like I may have some time.
And I could use the bucks... 9/23/2005 10:42:57 AM |

yeah i was about to say.. valve cover/spark plug gaskets are relatively easy
air leaks on turbos are pretty fun arent they 9/23/2005 12:07:46 PM |

talked to the mechanic looking at it again, he says:
#1 oil's leaking onto the plugs, saturating the tips, wires, etc.
#2 oil's leaking under the engine somewhere (probably related to #1)
#3 vacuum leak (probably T-VIS valve) not sure if it is gaskets or the valve itself (valve is 580$+ from dealer)
i can replace sparks and wires, but the oil leak will just ruin the new set.
zxappeal, i sent a pm. 9/23/2005 12:44:44 PM |
