So now that i bought this car, and saved about $12,000 doing it, thought I might mod it a bit. Don't want to go tacky ricer or anything.
I'm thinking starting small with cold air induction. Installing it myself since it's not that hard im told. What are some good places around Raleigh that you've had experience with? 9/26/2005 10:39:08 AM |

this car?
an intake (if there are no major hangups) should take 30 minutes max if you've never done it before.

What are you asking? A good place to buy the CAI, or to have it installed?
You should buy it online, then install it yourself. If its for that Celica, I can almost guarantee that Injen, K&N, and AEM will make CAI kits for it. Probably more companies than that. If you still can't find one you want, find a celica (if not celica, whatever car you have now) forum and ask them. 9/26/2005 11:12:41 AM |

I'm hoping to find some good places to purchase the parts. I'll probably do the installations myself which is why I'm starting with something simpler. IE Cold Air Intake. 9/26/2005 1:01:57 PM |

i like the '97 gt's it's a torquey motor with no hp. i have a cai and paceshitter header going to 2.25 exhaust with a high flow cat and dynomax muffler. is it fast NO. is it a good daily driver and does it sound somewhat decent yes.
dont waste ur time with the header etc just get the cai and stop there. the best thing you could do for that car is swap out the 5sfe for a 3sgte. the 5sfe heads design is really restrictive although it is a very reliable engine.
i bought my cai with filter and all the hookups for only 35 dollars off ebay. dont waste ur money on the injen crap.
do u want to sell ur st for how much?
just my $.02

Most probably I will be selling the ST for around $3100. It's interior is immaculate with a couple things that make it good instead of excellent.
PROS: EVERYTHING works flawlessly. No issues at all. Sunroof opens/tilts/closes fine. Power locks, power windows, even the anti stupid protection works. Aka, leave your keys in the ignition and lock the doors. It auto unlocks. Same with the lights. leave them on, they turn on automatically. Never one issue with the engine in the year I've owned her. Not even a belt squeek. Took her to Canada and back and averaged about 31.5 miles per gallon. Replaced the oil every couple of months using partial synthetic and pure synthetics. Oil filter replaced about the same time. New sparkplugs, platinums. All the wiring is good. No aging stuff in there.
INTERIOR is AWESOME. Very clean. There are a couple stains under the mats but i think oxyclean would get them out. Seats work fine, slide, adjust no problem.
All levels work great. No sideways hanging or anything that you see with older cars. From the doorlocks to the seat locks in the backseat (which have lots of headroom amazingly), etc.
Spare tire is unused, sound system is rocking all speakers in tact and working fine. No buzzing or blown base.
CONS:
Interior: Needs new tinting. The owner prior to me messed a couple up and it shows on the rear window and one side where it's pealing. The center panel compartment, the top looked funny when I got it. The plastic that is under the cover is broken. While it doesn't effect the use of it, it looks odd. If someone wanted to super glue it and restretch out the material it would look new.
Exterior The front wheels need replacing soonish. The original hubcaps were cracked and falling apart so I replaced them. Eh they're hubcaps. I think it looks decent. The antennae was gone when I got her. However oddly enough, I have no trouble getting reception on FM stations. The antennea replacement is $55 aftermarket and $100 from the dealer. I listen to CD's most of the time so never think about it.
There are tiny sinks here and there from before I got the car on the front bumper as well as a large scrape. Most people don't notice the scrape but I just thought I'd mention it.
I'm not going to budge much on the price because I kept the car so well and I'd rather keep it than sell it too far under KBB. KBB has my car in good condition at $3,150 with 159,000 miles on it. I don't think i could let it go for less than that because of how good a shape it is. I've really liked the drive on this car and it would make an awesome college car in my opinion. 9/26/2005 8:40:04 PM |

If you really feel like wasting money, an intake alright. A CAI isn't worth the risk IMO, as you're mostly just putting it on there for noise.
I say save your money for maintenance and modifying something worthwhile. Either that, or invest in something that will make your car more comfortable/enjoyable, like upgraded speakers. 9/27/2005 10:23:13 AM |

^^ I wouldn't even take the 0.5-1% (Or whatever ) chance that I'd drive through a large puddle if it weren't doing much for me in the first place.
^ I have a pretty strong grasp of the idea that an intake actually gains power on some cars. I think putting one on an automatic celica is a waste of time and money for everyone involved though. I also think that you are less likely to drive into a puddle than this dude. Just judging by his other threads.
But he can go ahead and get one, I'm not gonna freak out about it or some shit. I'm just saying it's a fucking waste of his time and money.
That doesn't mean I'm saying it's a waste for you to put a CAI on an R32 (Where it's actually going to do something).

^^ That's a beastly URL.
That's what I got last night with the following bonuses
1) Lifetime warranty on all work they did 2) Lifetime warranty on the pain job 3) Free tuning/oil change + detailing after 2 months.
I still want the Porche911 turbo they had outside parked by my car. It was disheartening. On one side I'm getting a car i really like... on the other... there's a car worth $80,000 beside it... that burns up $400 in break pads everytime it races. 9/27/2005 11:40:07 AM |

not talking expensive mods. CAI is cheap to me. I'm not talking turbo's or supercharges. I'm not that skill level and I sure as hell wouldn't waste that on an automatic hehe.
looks nice, now i want it to perform decently and sound good.
I also don't know much about mufflers. I don't want a mexican wailing muffler. Something with a nice hum or goes along with the sound the CIA does.
This is just my first project car.

Damnit dude, this isn't a project car. Stop wasting your time even thinking about modifying it in any way, shape, or form. It will gain you nothing, sound like ass, and risk hydrolock (With the CAI), and for what?
Absolutely nothing.
Like I said, if you want to "modify" it, do so by upgrading your speakers/head unit. That would be a far better investment. Believe me, your car will sound better in stock form with a decent stereo than it will with a CAI and muffler.

the only way the celica would remotely resemble a project car is if u dropped a fully built 3sgte in it. then u would have something. my car has everything u want on it. it's no project car it's a beater piece of shit.
so that st has 159k... i know it's a toyota but shit that's a lot i think ill stick with my car. 9/27/2005 5:25:30 PM |

It's a cheap project car to me. Slight modifications etc.
If I wanted a full out mod car I'd buy a supra or an rx-7.
I'm not a fucking idiot for wanting to mod a car slightly. If i was adding a $2000 super charger or shit then yes... i would be a fucking idiot. But not everyone likes the cars you do or how they drive. Not everyone likes driving a manual all the time.
Some people like the advantages of an automatic. Not rolling back on hills, not stalling out, not having to replace a clutch every 30,000 miles (technically you don't have to replace it but it sure works better when you do).
I'm taking this car and I'm going to mod it slightly. Make it a little faster. The stock stereo is already nice. I don't want something that thumps other peoples windshields with wigger music. Thanks for asking though.
IF you want to gimme some GOOD ideas please do. Otherwise go fuck with someone elses thread. Jesus christ.

Speakers may give you slightly more bass than stock, but I was suggesting them for sound quality. If your car has stock speakers still, some decent aftermarket ones will make a big difference. Much more of a difference than the intake ever will, that's for sure.
I think you're thinking of a sub, which was never suggested.
I'm telling you, you will not feel that massive 1whp at all. That intake will make noise and hopefully (If you actually buy it) hydrolock your otherwise stock (and perfectly good as it is) motor. That's about it.
Quote : | "I'm not a fucking idiot for wanting to mod a car slightly." |
No, you're an idiot for wanting to mod that car slightly. If you had a manual RSX-S or R32 or half the cars we tried to recommend, I would fully support you buying an intake.

The first two are problems that go away with even the slightest experience. And you won't have to replace your clutch 'till after 100k miles (at least) in most cars.
