i understand that some people build their vehicles to get them as stock as possible, for show, thereby needing parts to match and whatnot....
but why do ya'll that disapprove of mixing parts, (chevy engine in ford vehicle, etc), feel that way?
(this isnt a "you're right, no, im right" kinda thing......just curious as to your reasons) 9/27/2005 11:40:17 PM |

regular peeps mix stuff all the time.....but what you see is people with big money or sponsered cars which are required to have a specific brand. There was a guy on here a while back with a new beetle that had neuspeed everything.....thought that was kinda stupid, personally which ever brand has done the most r&d on the specific part is what i would go with 9/28/2005 12:11:24 AM |

So lets say I have an Isuzu and the master cylinder is made by bendix, and I change that out to one with a MC with a larger bore from a Chevy, but it is also made by Bendix, is that wrong? Or the Aisin built trans to one from a toyota and it is also built by Aisin? What if both of these trans have similiar variants used in dodges and jeeps. Could I have swapped those in to a Nip even though they are from domestic vehicle? My axles are from a chevy, but were built by Dana and AAM. Am I really putting chevy axles under my truck? Who cares its your vehicle, build it how you want it. 9/28/2005 12:15:01 AM |

^^thats not really what we're talking about here.
i think part of it for me comes from the fact that growing up i was a ford guy. i know its hard to tell since i drive a cavalier and a s-10, which i do love, but my dream cars include a '49 ford f-1 pickup and a '39-'40 ford coupe w/ full on built flat heads.
i know a major part of it is the fact of the matter is that ford parts are always more expensive than gm parts and it used to kill me to be checking out this beautiful '39 or '40 ford coupe that obviously had a ton of money spent on it and have either mostly stock body/interior or fully customed but using other ford parts, then look under the hood and see a chevy 350 that the guy got because it was cheaper to build up than the stock flat head or a 302 or 351.
it just seems like at that point you might as well take all of the badges off the car because its soul is gone. its no longer a ford, its a custom.
and lord knows that if anyone ever put a ford engine in a chevy there would be no end to the amount of shit they would get over it.
do what ya want, but its not something i will be caught dead doing.

I don't give much of a damn. I've got a fair share of Ford stuff in my Mazda.
Some mixing is just stupid though. Fuck the old fogies with all glass 32 Ford roadsters and the like with a SBC. At least have the thing sort of Ford. 9/28/2005 12:36:21 AM |

Yeah, I can't stand hot/streetrods or customs who put no thought into the drivetrain. They just drop in a 350 to a 700r4/th350/th400. Its not really the chevy engine in the ford coupe, it is just because it is boring.
Muscle cars are all about the manufactures out doing each other off the lot, so brand mixing is extremely gay. 9/28/2005 12:46:51 AM |

For instance my Oldsmobile. Thought about putting a Cheby motor in it a few times but then is it really and Olds? I kinda felt like it would be more Chevelleish, nothing wrong with that if you like chevelles but I like cutlasses We like our specific brands of cars for the quirks and mistique. Performance wise you cant beat a Chevy. HP per $ you cant beat a Chevrolet. It does suck when you see a nice old Ford hotrod with a sbc under the hood. Flat head fords are so damn cool. But to each there own. If you want to be unique its gonna cost $. I you wanna go fast cheap, chevy is the only way to go. Build it how you want it and if people dont approve of it who cares. 9/28/2005 3:20:24 PM |

^^ unfornately in my case finances proved to be more important than brand loyalty. My car will be back to Olds power one day. 9/28/2005 4:24:51 PM |

you guys gotta remember that sometimes theres other factors in there tho, I've got a 350/700r4/9inch combo because i want to drive across country with the car. Keeping the Stovebolt six and rebuilding/hotrodding would have cost 3 times what the motor in it now did, and parts will not be available in timbuktu. Flatheads are Awesome but hard to find and don't have the same balls for any amount of money.
Of course, in my case its a 55 chevy....so it could have come with a smallblock 9/29/2005 8:07:39 AM |

i just don't mix ford and chevy cause its not right
ohh yeah... and i don't really like chevy i mean i'd put an ls1 in a jeep or something but thats about it
if the part is made by someone else like the transmission or something... it doesn't count i mean hell ford chevy and dodge use the t-56 transmission 9/29/2005 11:08:02 AM |
