I know these are probably n00b questions I'm about to ask, but whatever. I feel its the easiest way for me to figure it out.

I just got a new cell phone (LG VX8100) with mp3 capability and it has a port for a mini SD card. I'm not familiar with SD cards at all, or how they work. So someone correct me if I'm wrong. I wanna buy a 512MB mini SD card for my cell phone, but how do I download files to the card via my computer? Would I need a flash memory card reader? Is a mini SD card flash memory?

I just want to have a clear understanding of what I need to buy to use this feature.

You'll need a card reader.

$20 at best buy

the cover for the port says "mini SD" and the manual says it can hold mini SD cards up to 512MB....so to answer your question, no?

a transflash card could be put into a minisd shell and would probably work in your phone.

However thats a dumb way to do it.

Just buy a mini-sd card.

newegg has some cheaper that the crucial one, but i've never heard of the brands.

some guy just asked how to turn a flash card into a pen drive ( IT PAYS TO READ RELEVANT THREADS ON THE FRONT PAGE) ...its all flash media. that little thing will operate like a usb to mini SD converter.

grab it

i've had no problems with any of my sandisk cards (a couple 256, 512, and a 1gb).

i suggested that minimate. its nice because it allows you to not only read the card but double it as a thumb drive if you ever had the need. ive never had any problems with mine

you can use cards larger than 512, it's just that they printed 512 b/c that's what was out when they printed the manual.
