Mets - mainly because they have the funds to put a winner on the field and never do and they are notorious for handing out outrageous contracts to average players (see Bobby Bonilla)

^^ the Mets WERE. Omar Minaya is teh GM now and they fired their entire scout team. I think the days of the stupid signings are over. You can point to Beltran all you want but that WAS and IS a good signing despite one bad year.

They are pretty much mirroring the Braves right now. The second half of the year they have started 4-5 homegrown kids under 25 almost every game and balked at the chance to trade away prospects for aging superstars.

Also. I need to remind everyone that the Mets have won a pennant only 5 years ago. The Braves haven't even won one in that timespan..

2004, 4th place NL east, 25 games back, only 4 games ahead of the Expos.
2003, Last place NL east, 34.5 games back (Expos were 18 back).
2002, Last place NL east, 26.5 games back .
2001, 3rd place NL east, only 6 games back, but then again, only 1 game over .500.

regardless. I already said that the old management is long gone. If you can't see a difference in how the team was handled this year then I can't help you..

I'm not trying to knock the Braves at all but the name of the game is winning championships. Their fans can take pride all you want in the 14 straight divisions because it is an amazing, amazing feat. That being said, that record is like kissing your sister if you only win ONE championship in that time..

I'm really not trying to be argumentative, but I have serious doubts about the competency of Omar Minaya... remember this is the guy who really hurt the then Expos farm system during his first season on the job... he dealt away quality prospects to bring in Colon... who quickly exited.... then he traded a boat load of guys to the Marlins for Cliff Floyd, who was in Montreal for all of 3 weeks before Minaya traded him for pratically peanuts... I understand that the players Minaya traded away havent exactly produced as yet but they were all top caliber prospects when they were traded... see Justin Wayne, Brandon Phillips, et. al.

I agree that the Beltran signing will turn out good, but I cannot for the life of me understand how you justify giving Kris Benson that kind of contract

The Mets future is bright with kids like Wright and Reyes and a true ace in Pedro, but too many bad contracts like Floyd, Piazza, Matsui, Benson, Cameron, that is a lot of money for very little production even though Floyd had a decent year

And BTW, even though I detest the Braves I have to admit they are probably the best run organization in baseball
