Quote : | "President George Bush has claimed he was told by God to invade Iraq and attack Osama bin Laden's stronghold of Afghanistan as part of a divine mission to bring peace to the Middle East, security for Israel, and a state for the Palestinians.
The President made the assertion during his first meeting with Palestinian leaders in June 2003, according to a BBC series which will be broadcast this month.
the former Palestinian foreign minister Nabil Shaath says Mr Bush told him and Mahmoud Abbas, former prime minister and now Palestinian President: "I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.' And I did, and then God would tell me, 'George go and end the tyranny in Iraq,' and I did."
And "now again", Mr Bush is quoted as telling the two, "I feel God's words coming to me: 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.' And by God, I'm gonna do it."

This is all hearsay. Sure Bush feels like he's got a divine mission or whatever...but are we to trust that these were his exact words? I mean come on...consider the source...the Palestinian foreign minister? OH YEAH...HE'S SURE TO PAINT BUSH IN A FAVORABLE LIGHT.
Just gives the radical Muslims another reason to call this a holy war. It's all a bunch of bull crap Arab propaganda.10/7/2005 10:51:52 AM |

When the president talks to God Are the conversations brief or long? Does he ask to rape our women’s' rights And send poor farm kids off to die? Does God suggest an oil hike When the president talks to God?
When the president talks to God Are the consonants all hard or soft? Is he resolute all down the line? Is every issue black or white? Does what God say ever change his mind When the president talks to God?
When the president talks to God Does he fake that drawl or merely nod? Agree which convicts should be killed? Where prisons should be built and filled? Which voter fraud must be concealed When the president talks to God?
When the president talks to God I wonder which one plays the better cop We should find some jobs. the ghetto's broke No, they're lazy, George, I say we don't Just give 'em more liquor stores and dirty coke That's what God recommends
When the president talks to God Do they drink near beer and go play golf While they pick which countries to invade Which Muslim souls still can be saved? I guess god just calls a spade a spade When the president talks to God
When the president talks to God Does he ever think that maybe he's not? That that voice is just inside his head When he kneels next to the presidential bed Does he ever smell his own bullshit When the president talks to God? 10/7/2005 1:55:08 PM |

^^ I'm not saying i trust the president wholeheartedly. And I'm certainly not a right-winger. But I certainly don't trust Arab media or Arab foreign leaders to present and accurate portrayal of truth. 10/7/2005 2:22:33 PM |

do you have a problem with gwb attacking a country because god asked him to, even if god did (and there is no way to ascertain something like that)? 10/8/2005 8:25:53 AM |

white house denial:
Quote : | "White House denies Bush claimed divine inspiration Oct 07 9:14 AM US/Eastern
The White House has denied that US President George W. Bush said God told him to invade Iraq and Afghanistan, as a new BBC documentary is expected to reveal.
"That's absurd. He's never made such comments," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Thursday.
The documentary series set to be broadcast later this month in Britain claims Bush made the claim when he met Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas and then-foreign minister Nabil Shaath in June 2003.
He also told them he had been ordered by God to create a Palestinian state, the ministers said.
Shaath, now the Palestinian information minister, said: "President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven with a mission from God'".
"'God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan'.
"'And I did. And then God would tell me, 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq... ' And I did.
"'And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And by God I'm gonna do it'," said Shaath.
Abbas, who was also at the meeting in the Egyptian resort of Sharm al-Sheikh, recalled how the president told him: "'I have a moral and religious obligation'".
"'So I will get you a Palestinian state.'"
The three-part series, "Elusive Peace: Israel and the Arabs", charts the attempts to bring peace to the Middle East, from former US president Bill Clinton's talks in 1999-2000 to Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza strip.
The series is due to begin airing Monday. " |

why are you mad at Hitler? he can say God asked him to.
why will you be mad at me if i tried to kill you claiming God asked me to?

I wouldn't know, unless God told me that He had.
If God is seriously speaking to someone -- if it really is God and not just some manifestation of insanity -- then that someone had better do it.
You're asking me if a direct, personal command from God Almighty justifies performing the commanded action, and I'm saying yes. Had you asked me if merely claiming the existence of such a command justifies it, then I'd say no.10/8/2005 4:35:15 PM |
