body shop owner told me nationwide sucks (and had several horror and lawsuit stories to tell), progressive is pretty decent and state farm is the most reasonable and what they prefer to deal with

AMICA...one no one has ever heard of oddly enough is supposed to be like 2nd or 3rd best in the state, Farm Bureau and State Farm i believe are the best

I can't complain except that they are pricey, and now due to a certain charge on my driving record I am having to drop them.

Everytime I see this discussed everyone has their own opinion. My only guess is that it might be possible certain companies target different drivers.

Starm Farm dropped me after one accident. I had some little company for a while when waiting for my record to be clean again. Switched to AIG. Now with progressive, which for me is very different.

The Progressive guy sat on the phone with me for over an hour and went over every little detail. Such as doubling this coverage only costs you $6 more for a 6 month period. Overall, I have much more coverage than AIG and I pay almost ~$500 less a year.

Progressive is very good from a customer service/price standpoint, and from a bodyshop standpoint.

State Farm is pretty good too. If I wasn't with Progressive, I would go with them. Their service first shops have pretty free reign on their customers when they are working on their vehicles.

USAA has usually been very good to its customers too. Dunno what the prices are, but probably pretty good.

Nationwide is ruthless on its blue ribbon shops. They try to force them into using shitty used parts, will absolutely crush them if they are late on a repair and make them eat the rental days, and things like that. However the blue ribbon shops put up with it because Nationwide sends them SO much business. But they will cut a rental off even if a car isn't done at the shop and if the shop owner won't take care of it, its on you unless you do a LOT of bitching to the adjustor. My wife even works for them and their prices are pretty damn high.

I've got nationwide b/c its cheap and I run liability only on my 4runner, it comes out to less than 400 a year. my tacoma is still under my parents policy and i'm not complaining.

I have progressive. When I got into an accident, they just cut me a check. I ended up getting the work done by a friend of a friend, not even a real body shop and saved $Texas. The guy also played around with the estimate to make sure that my car wouldn't be declared totalled and given a junk title.

Amica is tops. But won't even quote you if you do not have a spotless record.

I am with Erie. Very good rates, and a good reputation as well.

If you have a home... also consider consolidating home & auto with a company that offers high quality insurance and service on both. You can likely get a discount for consolidating the policies.

Ditto. I have both renters' and auto from them, which gets me a discount. The one time I had to file a claim (when the Crown Vic caught fire), the service was good, reasonably fast, and they were very fair with the value after they decided it was totaled ($2800, or $2500 and I could keep the car w/salvage title. I only paid $1800 for it originally...)

natiowide is pretty good. I have only one complaint. After your car is fixed, they want your rental turned in asap. So when my car was ready in W-S, I had to make a mad dash from Raleigh to turn it in.

i got state farm. they suck in the beginning and if you are a new driver more so than other companies, but the longer you are with them the better it gets.
