im going to see the 240 in charlotte tomorrow, if it runs fine ill be trading my bike (im riding my bike up there with title in hand) i was going to take the license plate off my celica and put it on the 240 and drive the speed limit all the way back praying not to get pulled.
i heard i think from bigblue that this is a bad idea.. how else can i transport it, without the plate? isnt that just asking for trouble?
my dad transported a 4runner with his l/c plate all the way from nj to here and had no problems.
let me know
thanks 10/12/2005 6:13:13 PM |

get the owner to let you borrow the current plate, or go to the license plate office (south hills mall) and get a temp. tag. 10/12/2005 6:26:52 PM |

it's a bigger offense to have a fake plate/wrong plate on a car than no plate. why can't you just go to the dmv in charlotte tomorrow and go ahead and get it registered? otherwise, just go ahead and get insurance on it and roll w/ no plate. if you get pulled, just explain you're only driving back to raleigh, and show them proof of insurance and the title. 10/12/2005 6:27:09 PM |

just add it on as another vehicle, then cancel the celica later. you can't get a plate without insurance. 10/12/2005 7:05:37 PM |

actually I have the exact same problem. I bought a 240 from a guy in Charlotte last week, but he had a lean on it so I can't get the title for another few days (I have the bill of sale). Without the title, I can't register the car. So I drove mine up here to Raleigh going the speedlimit with my other car's plate on it praying I didnt get pulled.
Of course I got insurance on the car right away.
