I would strongly suggest not doing that. I always used 2 jack stands and a locked hydraulic jack when I went under...and I still felt a little iffy

you can also use ramps, but jackstands can be used for all kinds of under-car repairs (suspension, brakes, exhaust, etc.). you cant use ramps if you're taking the wheels off..

i use ramps all the time. if theyre metal ramps, theyre fine. if theyre rhino ramps just keep an eye on em for cracks, etc. they have a lifetime warranty

the cheaper steel ramps arent nearly as strong as the reinforced steel ones, or rhino ramps. low slung late model cars benefit from the rhino ramps longer slope.

Back when I was in highschool and didn't know shit about cars or working on them, I did this all the time when changing oil. Of course it wasn't a good idea though.

Actually, I just used one jack on one side of my mom's Kia and my sister's Cavalier. I lived to tell about it though, obviously. Jackstands are cheap enough that you should just go ahead and get at least two.

to change the oil on my car i dont even have to jack it up at all
i can fit under there when its on the ground with all 4 tires
but i have jack stands for when i do other shit
or if i dont wanna squeeze under the car haha

ive done it before, its not that bad, but usually i use a hydrolic jack to jack up the car, and put the stands under it, then i move the hydrolic jack to under the k member just in case

there arent many cars that you can't reach the drain plug form laying on your back and reaching under, the filter is a different story though, i cant ever remember having to jack up a vehicle to change the oil, but then again, the only car we ever had in the family was my sisters t-bird. hell on my dad's truck i could sit under it, and lean back against the tire while the oil was draining.

i would pay you large quantities of money to change my oil without haveing to jack it up

if you are able to reach the oil plug from laying on your back, then you would have a hard time putting the oil somewhere considering a drain pan wont fit under my car.

today i say a guy working on his car, he was crawled up underneath the thing from the front, and it was proped up on 1 jack, and then the tire was off and the wheel was underneath the rotor, to further help prop the car up. but the kicker was that the car was on a hill, and if it would have rolled off the jack or wheel it would have crushed the guy mad max style

even when i weighed 300 lbs, i could easily fiy under my car. now at 190 lbs you could drive right over me and it is stock suspension. but i forgot about this when i offered to change my bros oil in his 92 prelude....... couldnt get the oil pan under is right.

you could drive a go kart without a roll cage under my frame rails, the only thing i dread is shit on top of the engine which involves standing on the push bar to put oil in it. spark plugs are a breeze though, reach right through the wheel wells, a i swear i think i could pull the heads out through there

i always jack up one side of the car with a hydraulic 5000lb jack and use one jack stand just in case the jack let's lose, i haven died yet, if im rotating tires ill use 2 jack stands.
