If you haven't already done it, install iTunes, it should come on a CD with the iPod. Open it up when your iPod is plugged in. I'm assuming you have already formatted your iPod for your operating system. On the left side there are some preselected playlists that come with iTunes. I deleted these since they are stupid. Before you had a song to your iPod, you have to add it to your iTunes library. Select "Library" on the right, then go up to file -> add file to library. Browse to your mp3 directory and add whatever you want. Once added, it should show up on the window on the right. Right click on the song and click "get info" if you want to modify the song name/band name/album/genre, etc. When you want to put it on your iPod, click and drag it to the name of your iPod which probably shows up somewhere on the left side under the library section. To create a playlist, select either library or the iPod's name, then go to file -> new playlist. Name the playlist, then just click and drag onto that playlist to add a song to it.

^ yeah ok.... let me expand a little.

Apparently I can have all the songs in my library and only transfer certain songs over as opposed to the whole library (which is too big to fit in the ipod)

Also, As far as the play list goes- unless i messed something up, i made a new playlist and transfered the songs over - but the playlist wasn't made to the ipod

you need to do the following.

edit > preferences > ipod > select the option for "manually update my ipod"

problem solved now you can drag and drop only what you want.

yes "do not update my ipod manually"

just follow the steps above.

also if you aren't authorized to use that music (if you purchased it through itunes) it won't work

not with itunes, it only allows you to transfer TO the ipod

you can get a program called ephpod (or oen of the many programs out there that lets you do this) to pull mp3s back off of your ipod onto a computer, then you can move them from that computer to the second ipd
