yesterday, in broad daylight i nailed a deer at about 140 mph on my new gixxer. bike is probably totaled, and i cut the deer in half, but i never laid the bike down, rode it to a stop. so anyone lookin for a 2005 gsxr 750 that runs great, but has front plastic, left side plastics, or headlight assembly, let me know. the radiator is busted too. the forks still seem to be straight. i'll find out for sure tuesday.

??? If its totaled it shouldn't be running great...

If you hit it straight on at that speed, might want to check to see if your front rim is bent. Sounds like me 3x the speed.

Also, do you have full coverage? Since it is a new bike, if you do, talk to your insurance company. This is a no fault claim and you could get your bike fixed. Just leave out the 140mph part.

I'd imagine the wheels are rotating at such a speed that gyroscopic forces keep the bike rather stable.

I mean, obviously it's not impossible to hit a deer and live as apparently two people on here have done it recently. Very odd.

I was only going about 45 mph and got hit in the head by a bird. Damn near knocked me out and almost crashed into a parked car.

How the hell do you go THROUGH a deer at 140 mph, not wipe out, and not be as dead as a ripped in half deer? Titanium fairing, kevlar body suit??? Sure you didn't hit a squirrel instead of a deer?

well... if he was going 140, he'd have to be leaning all the way forward on the bike and as low as possible. If he also hits the deer head on (perpindicular), then he wouldn't loose much balance as long as he didn't reacted and tried to move or turn. When I hit a deer on my bike, I didn't loose any balance, or swerve before or after the deer. I just hit it, instant slow down, but nothing really drastic. it happened so fast I was like, WTF just happened.

That's prolly what happened to him.

Yeah, and that's at 65mph. I don't buy it for damn minute at 140mph. Homey AND the deer would be bike gravy.

i don't know, man...at 140, you might hit the deer so hard that it would just blast the shit out of the deer...almost slice through it

plus, a bike is really, really stable at that speed. it's like a freight train when it's going that fast (and even more so the faster you go)

plus he's going so fast that the blood and guts would still be 'airborne' after he's passed through it. so he probably wasn't all that messy. excepty maybe just blood

insurance wise, i'm sure it's totalled. it's not hard to total a sportbike. it takes a lot to fuck up the chassis and make it not worth fixing if you do it yourself, though. if the forks did indeed come out straight, it's probably ok.

I used to work with one of those old bikers that has been riding for 30 years and pretty much seen it all. He said he was riding with a pack one time and the lead guy hit a deer at about 90MPH. Sliced the deer in half, but killed the guy in the process.

I could see living through it though if you hit one going fast enough. Think about trying to karate chop a board. If you don't hit it hard enough your hand will stop and it hurts like a motherfucker, but if you hit it with enough inertia you will barely feel a thing.

So you're saying a Yugo could cut an 18-wheeler in half if it was going fast enough and still be drivable and not kill the driver? lol

Apples--->Oranges.

Yes, a Yugo could pass through an 18 wheeler. It might have to be travelling at a speed that no Yugo has ever accomplished, but if you propel it fast enough it will rip right through an 18-wheeler the same way that a lightweight lead bullet (soft metal) fired from a .22 will pass right through a quarter which is made of a more dense metal.

Still be driveable? Well, it's a Yugo. Those things barely ran long enough to get off the dealer's lot. Of course it is going to receive some damage when metal collides with metal at hundreds of miles per hour, so I seriously doubt it would be driveable.

Not kill the driver? A steel motorcycle frame is stronger than a deer's skeleton, so that isn't really a fair comparison. I'd imagine the Yugo would be toast if it hit an 18-wheeler at high enough speed to pass through it, but steel on steel is not the same as steel on flesh. The motorcycle did pick up some pretty substantial damage and its slender profile from the front gives it an advantage over a much wider and less dense Yugo.

If a Yugo hit a deer at 140mph, I theorize that the Yugo would get cut in half and the deer would live.

Skack agrees, but unfortunately that will always be in theory only. Everyone knows Yugos disintigrate at 84 MPH.

That's easy. Each deer carcass would have to be sliced in half for anyone to live.
