Guys, please go see this movie. Due to poor marketing, this franchise could be extinct unless more people see this, and prompt a second season of firefly (it's counterpart)

The movie is fucking badass (already in top movies of all time on IMDB from 18K votes). I promise you its a shitload of fun.

i still don't understand why you people think that rave reviews and pleading will convince the same people who wouldn't watch the show on tv when all they had to do was stay on the couch and change the channel to leave the house, drive to the theater, and pay money to watch this shit

Saw it, didn't really like it.

I don't really like Sci-Fi but I went with a friend and people had said that it was good. I thought the first hour or so was kindof pointless and I started looking for other things to do.

I wouldn't call it a bad movie by any means, just not that great.

^^^^ The fact that it was originally aired out of order and during a competitive time slot had something to do with it.

I've never see FireFly and I saw Serenity last Monday for free.

And I wish I'd done something else with that 2 hrs of my life. It was fairly amusing, but by no means great.

i never watched the show. i barely even remember it coming on. but i saw a trailer for the movie and i thought it looked good, so i got the tv series through netflix and loved it. the movie was even better. i took a friend that had never seen the show and he loved it too. i definitely recommend it, and i hope its box office total is enough to convince them to, if nothing else, make a sequel.

Ok smartass, look at the reader reviews. The vast majority of people who saw it loved it. That's my point, if you saw it and didn't love it you're in the minority. It's a good movie that the vast majority of those who see, love (even if they never saw the series. )It has a higher review rating than star wars on that site, and averages up there with citizen kane on IMDB.com

How am I in the minority then? By seeing the movie? Even major blockbusters that gross over 200 million aren't seen by a majority of americans.

Who said scientific?

The vast majority of the reader reviews on all the sites are extremely positive.

The vast majority of critic reviews are extremely positive.

Just because they're not scientific surveys doesn't mean those facts don't support the argument that the vast majority of people who saw it loved it. Get your head out of your ass.

I'd say the demographics for that website are skewed towards the dorks.

Neither myself or the two people that I saw the movie with were very impressed, and one of them had watched the show.

I'm not saying everyone else is wrong, but I wasn't impressed with the movie at all. I thought the trailers and teasers for the movie were horrible, and seeing the actual movie didn't do anything for me.

ha

so explain to me how critics/fans loving the MOVIE that is failing at the box office is any different than critics/fans loving the SHOW that failed at the ratings box

thats the crux of my argument

people weren't willing to watch the FREE TV show, why would they GO TO A movie that COSTS SOMETHING

p.s., the domestic box office isn't even going to cover the production costs

from a business standpoint -- this was a waste of a movie

^ extremely good point.

Although there have been good movies that "went nowhere", usually even the obscure movies that are really good do well in the end. (Like "Clerks" - indy film that spawned a number of major ones, "Sideways" did well too last year and got a number of awards.)

Serenity the DVD will likely sell between 110-140% the numbers the Firefly dvds did

its a dedicated fanbase, to be sure, but nothing more

^^^ kind of like how the first austin powers didn't make money till the dvd sales kicked in. if the movie sells half as many dvds as dvd sets of the series, then it'll make plenty of money.

I'm not arguing with you that it's not doing well, it's not, I'm just saying it deserves to do well because it's a good movie and most people who've seen it agree (critics included, among whom scifi usually doesn't fare so well.)

marketing you chode-hole. It's not that people weren't willing to watch the show, its just that FOX fucked it completely up.
The TV series was all jumbled by FOX and out of order. They only played 8 episodes out of 15, they were out of order b/c of some stupid exec thought that would be best, and those were marketed like dook.

It was the victim of terrible setup by a network with no patience to breed a great show.

Too late, the cult has already started -- you dont have to be a troll here. The movie was great, and has reached 28 mil worldwide in 3 weeks - for a failed show that is actually rather good. With DVD sales you'll see the total $ soar.

you say that as if you have any other examples to base this on

it is niche programming, thats all it will ever be
don't blame the network

Quote :

so, if it isn't the programs fault, and this movie is an extension and better installment of the programming, explain why the movie based on the show couldn't even break 11 million opening weekend
hell, The Fog did that

Because most people don't know crap about it.

oh, and since it's been on scifi it's been hovering at about #4 compared to other shows, and it's in the worst timeslot of the top 4 shows. not bad for a cancelled shows that's only reruns.

lots of reasons.

small movie budget
no star power to draw audience
not NEARLY the advertising budget of these other bloated shit films.
# of theatres showing

However its a far superior movie and one of the best sci-fi movies ever. That's all the explanation you need. Now stop trolling.

If you like the movie you'll love the show.

The first 9 minutes of the movie are free to watch online, so check it out if you aren't sure. I loved Serenity. My sister saw it without watching the series and she hates sci fi, yet she really liked the movie also.

cmon Crede. Its worth like 6 bucks in the afternoon to check it out all day long -- don't be so cheap.

or rather, you go download it and if you want to see those characters ever again, go see it in the theatre and make a contribution
