When I replaced the B-pipe (long pipe with resonator) on my accord, a lot of the problems I'd noticed disappeared.
It used to have a low idle shake. Was partially remedied by cleaning the IAC as much as possible (without removing it) and checking to see if the EGR ports were plugged (they were not).
It shook ever so slightly during acceleration. Like one of the CV joints was going bad (even though I had them rebooted or replaced). Checked wheel balance too.
That's crazy. I hope the gas mileage gets better too.
Engine still sounds like a diesel.
Stock was mandrel bent, replacement was crush bent, will it make a noticeable difference?

The short answer is no, standard bending won't make any noticable difference from mandrel bending - the constant inner diameter of the mandrel bends might slightly reduce backpressure and increase efficiency, but you're not racing this thing 10/18/2005 4:23:58 PM |

Sounds like you have a regular misfire, and hopefully not due to a burned valve (much valve clatter or anything?). 10/18/2005 4:39:10 PM |

a misfire? i've replaced the rotor button, dist. cap, and plugs a year ago. the wires looked good so i didn't touch them.
valve noise is rather pronounced, but valve lash is within spec.
i checked to see if the plugs were loose (i know that sometimes causes a car to idle funny). they were fine and wearing evenly.
no trouble codes, but i'll short the service connection and see if anything has popped up.
when the car was new, it was as quiet as could be. my friend with the same car/engine has a much quieter idle than i do.
what can i do to confirm that it is a regular misfire? i'd like to get to the bottom of it.
