Recently I have been having two problems with my `99 outback.

First problem: When I start the car for the first thirty seconds the engine will lose power if I try to give it gas. I only have this problem when I first turn on the car and no other time. This does not happen every time but more often than I would like.

Second problem: When I am accelerating, going up hill, putting a load on the engine, something from the engine area makes a sort of clicking noise. When I am cursing or when I am not in gear the noise goes away.


Any guess if the problems are related or know of a good place to take it to get looked over?

you could maybe use a tune up and a fuel injection service. dont know what kind of clicking noise your talking about but could be in the vavles.. bad gas maybe. try that and maybe a thicker oil. good luck.

some sensor in the air metering system might be messed up for problem one (my guess is IAT or Baro). problem two sounds drivetrain related, like an issue with the lifters or valves. does it happen when you accelerate hard?

I am kinda sure that trying to reset your computer should solve the first problem.

First: let the thing warm up for a minute, then take off
Second: go up to 89 or 93 octane fuel and see if it persists
