-Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), on Meet the Press
wait wait wait.
They're arguing that lying under oath is a mere "technicality?"

Won't be the first time... and you act like this is the only party that has come up with this. I seem to remember the exact same language flying around about 1998.10/24/2005 8:08:43 AM |

When did any of the republicans under investigation ever testify in court? This is strange, they havn't begun the trials yet, how could they have committed perjury?!?!?
Or is this the same crap they god Martha Stewart on, "Potentially lying to the Police!" What a fucking crock! Whoever passed that damn law should rot in hell. It is my God Given Right to lie to the police. When they break down your door and you are without council, you might say anything. Being put in prison for it is rediculous.10/24/2005 8:14:50 AM |

^ You're required to be placed under oath before testifying to a grand jury. The grand jury is still court.
But this is what I love about our country, watching teh L3ft try to illustrate GOP hypocrisy by acting like hypocrites... 10/24/2005 10:22:25 AM |

^ wait, what? now i'm confused. how is anyone here on "teh l3ft" being hypocritical by pointing out this particular hypocrisy?
If you're talkign about anything related to clinton, it's a strawman argument, and you know it. I guarantee you that almost any pro-clinton person on tww would tell you that clinton lying under oath was a punishable offense. 10/24/2005 10:26:12 AM |

Bill McCollum(R-Fla.) on Perjury in 1998
Quote : | "Washington Post 12/10/98:
"...People who go to court in our system expect witnesses who are called to testify to tell the truth to the judge and the jurors. That's what we mean by the term "rule of law." Without truthful testimony, justice can't be rendered and the system doesn't work. That's why a person who testifies in court is sworn "to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth." And that's why if in court proceedings a person lies, encourages others to lie, hides evidence, or encourages others to hide evidence, he is subject to severe punishment. In fact, the Federal Sentencing Guidelines state that people who are convicted of perjury, obstruction of justice are punished more harshly than those who commit the crime of bribery...r" |
