the funny part was most people didnt know that the dorm phone system was overwhelmed and their call never left the building. You could get on much faster on an off campus or pay phone. 10/27/2005 11:39:43 AM |

Man, you'd try to call first thing in the morning and it was busy for like 10 hours straight and all the good classes were already taken. I'd usually walk to reynolds and try there. 10/27/2005 4:55:58 PM |

i remember once tracs online came about, it would get backed up first thing in the morning when it was time to register, so I just called it in, and zipped right through. 10/27/2005 5:05:59 PM |

I had to register using the phones at orientation. The first semester for online registration was my first semester here. Fun stuff. 10/28/2005 1:55:05 AM |

I still do
these days it's much faster than online
plus it opens about 5-10 minutes before online does, so by the time people are finally able to log in to register, i'm already done 10/28/2005 8:21:57 AM |

That fucker was so tempermental. I was always so careful with the buttons I was pushing because it was nothing for that dude to kick you off....My heart was racing and shit because it had taken me like 6 hours on a fucking Saturday morning to even get through
It took me a a year to figure out the whole dorm system back up thing. Dumbass 10/28/2005 9:41:56 AM |

I would always hit the wrong button and it disconnect my call.
Remember the unpublished numbers? I think there where at least 4 or 5 of them. 10/28/2005 11:46:23 AM |

^^ That is why you write a phone number script before you start.
You just figure out what you are going ot do then write the list out. I would write mine out to avoid any chance of the dreaded time-out.

I used to work with the guy whose voice they recorded for the system. I hated him at first because the TRACS phone system sucked, but I got over it.
I actually had a professor tell my class that we should borrow a friend's phone line in UT to register if we couldn't get through from the dorms. WTF??? moron.10/30/2005 2:12:23 AM |

I remember when the voice of tracs gave away a convertible red camaro outside of Talley (It was actually UAB's raffle), but his voice gave it away and every one was in awe.
Old, Old School: I can remember registering with pen and paper. Authentic Old, Old School: registering in large gymnasiums with those computer print out cards. 10/30/2005 6:20:45 PM |

I remember them making us do that at orientation only just to show us how it was done, but I always just registered online after that. In fact, I wanted to get into HI350 with Caddel so badly that they did my schedule on the computer so technically I never registered via phone 10/31/2005 6:44:25 AM |

At my college (state college in MA, 3000 students total) we were herded into a big room and they just signed up our names on lists (so you had to wait in line to sign up for each class).
If you needed to change your schedule in the first few days, you had a nice two-hour line ahead of you. I remember walking by the long long line of people waiting to change a class. It sucked for those people. (I never had to wait in it luckily.)
That was back in 1993-1997. I'm sure they're automated now.10/31/2005 9:20:01 AM |

Back while I was @ NCSU, we could phone in or register online from the dorms. I always found that calling in was faster than trying to register online if you started to call and keep redialing a good 5-10 minutes before they opened the phone line. It was all about getting up early, getting the classes you wanted, then going back to sleep! 11/1/2005 7:32:09 PM |
