My father is going to purchase a digital camera.
For some reason, he wants a printer docking station setup that will allow him to print the pictures from his digital camera. He doesn't have a computer.
What needs to be considered when picking out what to buy?
Can you get, say a Canon PowerShot A610 and a Kodak Photoprinter 500 and be good to go?
Thanks in advance.

some of them connect to docking stations and some just have a slot for memory cards

any camera/printer combo that have the "pict bridge" (exact spelling i'm unsure of) ability will let the camera plug directly into the printer and control it accordingly...kodak has its own thing with a printer dock if you wanted to go that route. i dont really feel like looking up the A610 or that specific dock..maybe somebody else will

I was just throwing the Canon and the Kodak out there. I was wondering if any camera (assuming it has flash memory) will mate with a printer that has a something like a flashcard reader or a usb port.

I imagine it should. I don't know what would happen if you took raw images instead of jpgs though.

All things considered though, I'm fairly sure buying 2 memory cards and using a service will be much cheaper. Even walmart can pull the pictures straight off the card.

My mom refuses to get a computer so I looked around a bit.

Check this out http://www.sandisk.com/retail/spa.asp

Maybe that would work better for him (the printing still has to be done elsewhere). Sometimes its hard to determine if a picture is good or not on a 2" or less lcd.

DURRR, the camera would have a video out most likely. I never use mine.

hp psc 1350 (or equiv) is an option..
it has a card reader on the front, just take the card out of the camera, plug it in, push the button and it prints out a sheet with little thumbnails of all the pics on the card
you take that sheet and place check mark(s) in the box next to the picture(s) you want to print, scan it (scanner on top) and it'll print what you checked...

rather neat
pointless if you have a computer, but if you dont...
the ones with the lcds are neat, but cost quite a bit more..

hp has a few decent cameras, and they all hook up to a dock which connects to some hp printer.. there's quite a few 'all in one' (camera, dock, printer) boxes float around..

olympus cameras support printing directly from them, but only support a few printers I think, never really tried it on mine, just noticed the option.. I think most cameras will support printing directly from them, you just have to find compatible equipment
